C/B 70 - Amador Series #4 - The Road To Heaven is Poorly Paved

Distance: 70+
Climbing: 7000+-
Pace: Medium, a few stops
Sweep: No - we will wait at the big intersections/turns.

Meetup time: in Ione @ Train Steam Engine: 9:55, Ride starts @ 10:00am sharp

Meetup Location:Parking Lot next to Ione Police Station - next to "Iron Ivan" Steam Train Engine (see link & map below).

4Th ride in the Amador series.  This week we add 10 miles and get to our old standard of 100' climbing per mile when we're all done.  As a bonus feature, this route has the 3 worst miles of pavement on the planet starting at mile 26. We will take it slowly but still wish we had never done it! The benefit of going down this road is a beautiful and car-less descent into the gorgeous Mokelumne River Canyon and crossing the old bridge. This is a scenic route with generally quiet roads with average climbing for the foothills, with no exceptionally steep or long climbs.

Food & Water Availability/Stops:

Mile 9: Buena Vista - convenience store

Mile 34: Jackson - full services, Raley's

Mile 49: Volcano - food & water and eclectic people

Mile 61: Sutter Creek - Water

Route.

Guys thanks for the fantastic ride. Great group of riders with similar capabilities. Too bad our tahoe surprise had to mechanical out - it would have been interesting to see if he could have survived the climbs as strong as he was until the broken spoke. Thanks for the hiney whipping - always appreciated. Next week is an "easy" week in prep of the "Slug"... We may add a bonus climb up Ram's Horn Grade. Hope to see you all there.

Scott, thanks for pulling these rides together. I really enjoy these Ione routes. Great group of cyclists to ride with and enjoy such outstanding riding weather this time of year.

I survived the poorly paved section, and had a great time on the bike with great weather, and good riders. Just a great day! Thanks.

Great day and great weather again! Some of the roads were a little rougher then I like, but the scenery and getting to know the back roads of Amador county is great. Besides I need training on those hills and I am most diffently getting training on those hills! Great ride, great group, see you all in the next Amador Series. George

Another tough Taggart ride! If I keep doing this, I'll either be well prepared for Death Ride in July or realize my limitations.
