I've been really wanting to climb it again, and my wife is game. We got a sitter for the kids, so it's time to do it!
Distance: ~39 mi.
Climbing: ~5200 ft.
Pace: Climb at your own speed.
Sweep: No
Time: Rolling at 9:30am SHARP.
Ability: Able to make the climb. I'm just not sure how to judge it. If you've done some of the rides up into the hills near Auburn then you ought to be ok. I don't think that there's anything steeper than 9%, much of it I seem to recall at around 7%. It's something like 18 or 19 miles from the ride start to the top. We'll ride together to Mt. Hamilton Rd, and then regroup at the top.
Make sure to have stuff to fix a flat. Helmets, snacks required. Water refills should be available at the observatory at the top.
Meeting at Linda Vista Elem School in San Jose. The address is 100 Kirk Ave. Obviously, you'll need to drive down. It's about 2 hours each way. Please contribute a reasonable amount to gas and the toll on the return for the driver.
Carpooling would be a great idea. I think I can manage 1 more in my truck, though the back seat isn't very big. Post here to set up rides down.
Jodi, I'm planning on doing it again in a few months. Though maybe with a variation.
cool ... I've done a bit of biking in the ebay, but not hamilton. I'd like to lead a trip to mt diablo w/loop back to train via franklin canyon and the carquinez path this fall ... going down by train
I've ridden Diablo several times, it's a good climb. Hamilton isn't as hard physically. But I much prefer to drive. I am not much of a fan of taking the train. It always ends up being more expensive and taking longer, and the schedules don't ever work out for me.
you've got to try the train --- it's really awesome. I commute down to the bay area twice a week with my bike & they are really getting great about bikes.
I would love to do this in cooler weather in the fall!
