FISH HATCHERY (map)
Ride Summary:
Terrain: Mostly flat to gentle rise with one long steep climb up Iron Point Road (At Costco)
Distance: approx 18 Miles
Speed: 16 - 20+ mph in the flat
Rider Level: Intermediate riders and up.
Sweep: No One regroup in the middle.
You should be able to maintain a pace of 17-19 mph for ~15 flat miles on your own if you want to stay with the back of the pack. The pace varies from 19-25+ mph depending on the pace line you ride with.
This bi-weekly ride will be a fast paced ride designed to build endurance and speed. We'll meet at 5 and leave at 5:15pm or before if all the Yes RSVPs are present. Please update your RSVP if you cannot make the event.
We'll ride .25 miles to the CSUS Aquatic center and take the bike trail over to Iron Point Road at the Folsom Outlets. We will take Iron Point all the way to East Bidwell and then climb the hill near Costco. From there we will meander our way through the neighborhood and do a little more climbing. Once everyone is there (top of Iris Circle ~mile 8.5) we will take a quick break, and by quick I mean make sure everyone is there and they are still alive. (You recover on the gentle ride back down the hill) We will snake our may back down the hill and return the the Hatchery via Iron Point Road.
Do not be discouraged if you get dropped on this ride. PLEASE KNOW YOUR LIMITS! It would also help to know the route. You can see the route here.
Please bring plenty of water (there are no services at our rest point, there are stores along the route but we are not stopping) and as always your helmet is required.
If you have any questions please let me know
Scott, Jeff's swapping one of the canal rides for this so he's doing beals, canal, beals, iron point
We'll see how long this stays in the rotation, and if I can even ride at all this week. We did it quite a few times last year but never brought it out in '10. We only have a few more weeks light left for these rides then we are back in da' dark. More than likely be avoiding these rides on the road in the dark.
Cindy this is a pretty advanced ride but if you want to give it a go I won't tell you No. Just be aware that this is a "no sweep" sprint ride. You can always turn around if you feel if you are in over your head. If you want to try another ride there is the S.F. ride on Saturday or the Camanche loop ride on Monday. New rides are posted often just find one you want to try and jump in if it fits your skill level. Just shoot me an email if you have any questions.
Is this a replacement for the canal ride?
