Davis Park & Ride (Mace Blvd.) (map)
Ride Summary:
Terrain: Mostly flat
Distance: D40
Speed: 12 mph avg
Rider Level: Advanced beginner
Sweep: Yes
We will meet in the parking lot of the Davis Park-n-Ride at 6:45am and leave 7am SHARP. Please make you carpool arrangements ahead of time. We will take I-80 west to CA-37 west into Tiburon. There are no tolls going this route. We will meet in the parking lot of Tiburon Linear Park at Tiburon Blvd and Jefferson Drive where there is plenty of free parking.
The ride will be mostly on the trail but there are some busy streets in Tiburon. We will visit Tiburon, Sausalito, the Golden Gate Bridge, and Pier 39. This is a slow paced ride to take in the sights. There is an Art Festival all weekend in Sausalito so expect delays as we weave SLOWLY around the tourists in town and on the trails.
Edit to add:
Just so there are no misconceptions about this ride, please be aware of the following.
If you are looking for a brisk paced ride with some good climbing you may want to think twice about this ride. This is a "stop and smell the roses" kind of ride. We will ride as a group with a side excursion or two but the intent is to stay together. Since most of this route is through areas that are heavy with tourists so we will need to be on our toes. They will be looking at the sights, we need to look out for them. There will be semi frequent stops to take in the sights as well as scheduled rest stops. There will be an extended lunch stop at Pier 39 for lunch and additional sight seeing.
I will also be taking any brave souls up to Filbert Street. For those who want to take the plunge, or just watch others give it a try, Filbert is the steepest street in the city at 31.5%. While fairly short it will definitely test your climbing legs, and your comfort with the feeling of flipping over backwards. : ) Lots of photo opps here, not to mention passing the bottom and/or top of Lombard street!
Todd,
There's a lot of obstacles in the city. A road bike is not suited for jumping on and off curbs.
@Cindy This ride is intended for road bikes, regardless of some of the chatter that you might read in the comments.
@ Perry --- I fixed your edit so the "color=red" tag was closed, it was hurting my eyes to see all the red after that :-P
@ Kane -- This is a stop and smell the roses kind of a ride, I don't think dodging in and out of obstacles and jumping over curbs will come into play.
@Javier "The Boss" did those edits. You may have pissed off "the Man". Better hang low! :-)
:-o ...well the [color=red] wasn't terminated so all the comments and the rsvp's were all red.
@ Jaier - Don't think for a second because you sent me a "Party Pig" in Farmville that is makes up for editing this ride without permission. You are soooo busted!! : p
@ Jeff ...LMAO ...I can't wait till Zynga comes up with circus midgets that we can gift each other :-D
Anyone want to carpool from Sac - I'm in the Tahoe Park area (65th st off 50) - of course w/the stop at Davis ....
Jodi, I'm open for 'pooling. I'm further east of you but if you still have an open space, I'm up for pitching in.
Jeff, awesome - let's talk - will send my phone via pm & we can touch base friday. I can do 3 people in my car - 2 bikes on roof and one inside ... so, anyone else ...
As a note, the weather in SF for Saturday may be a bit chilly. High of 67 with 14mph winds. http://www.weather.com/weather/wxdetail/USCA0987?dayNum=4...;![]()

About what time do you think you'll be at Pier 39? Trying to plan my day to meet ya'll there on foot.
Jodi can you take me? It would be great. You can email if you want. I, of course, will come prepared for gas money...I've driven for many meetups. Thanks....
@Greg we are looking at a very loose 1pm arrival. I think I still have your cell so I will give you a call if lunch plans or times change.
Jeff, I looked up that Cafe you were telling me about.
What does everyone think?

Although I'm not going I would tend to agree with Susan ...sounds like a great name for a strip bar ..in the city anyways
@ Javier - eweeeee! I was thinking it's just good that the name wasn't the other way around ... the food actually looks good if you can get past the name!
My car is at capacity for transporting people - I've got 3 ...
As a note to all people who still looking to car pool you may want to arrive a little early to get everything ironed out and get loaded up. There are still quite a few people who are looking for a ride. Please remember to chip in for gas. Is anyone else getting excited for this ride?!?!
Me me me me! Except the waking up at O'dark:30 part...thinking of maybe bringing the croozer trailer if anyone wants to get some souvenirs?
Good point Jeff. I think it will depend on how many people are there, and depending on it what vehicle they drive, if they load bikes in their Car or Truck. This is going to be a fun ride.
Jeff S, Perry, & Richard, my crew is meeting at my house in Sac, so we will just head down from there and meet you in Tiburon (e.g not meet up in Davis). See you there - I sense cool breezes ahead .... yahoo!
Today at 10:30 am, the GGbridge was fogged in, so bring layers.
Q: would we be better off with our mtn bikes in view of the rough roads and tourists?
OKAY, now I can take another rider in my car ... please pm me if you are interested ... or I'll just come to Davis and try to catch a straggler. Rick - think we'll be fine on road bikes - I'm bringing my touring bike, just cuz I can put on a pannier and bring layers. Blaine - I meant cool not cold breezes dammit! :)
Q: for everyone, who's bringing road bikes vs mtn bikes?
You will be fine on a MTB Flatlander. The slow ride on mostly bike trail. Ride what makes you comfy. I'm riding the only bike I ride in public without kids. : p
MTB. Does anyone have the address for Tiburon Linear Park for the GPS?
And if on this ride I come across some type of dirt jump I am going to be MAD
@ Dave/All Tiburon Linear Park is very easy to get to. I was going to print out directions but figured it was a waste of ink. Take 80W to 37W to 101S to exit 447 Blithedale Blvd/Tiburon Blvd turn left. Park is about 1-2 miles up on the right.
This is so fun! I am sorry to miss it....take plenty of photos!
We will have room for one more bike and peep when we get to Davis. : )
"36"--is this the critical mass ride of the year???
I have room for one other person. I spent the evening trying to find my third rack and no dice. Still bringing my mountain bike. Still trying to find my lock and cable in case we stop. I'm looking forward in having a blast and taking a bunch of pics.
Kane I think Mica's ride was the "critical mass" ride of the year----http://www.hammerinwheels.com/calendar/14375450/?from=lis...![]()

I don't have the know-how to stitch these together yet, so you'll have to click through them 1 at a time. They are all labeled with Sac904 as the file prefix. Start at Sac904 001 if you want to watch chronologically. They are about 2 mins or less in length.
It was an awesome ride! Thanks to all that helped pull this off and rode on it.
Thanks Jeff and Perry for taking over on a ride that would have been way over my head. You guys did a great job of making sure everyone started and finished the ride safely.
Thank you to my sweep crew and everyone who helped me make it up those mostly flat hills. It was such a beautiful ride and so much fun!
P.S. Filbert street is not only the steepest street in the city, but the western hemisphere!
