This is the same ride that was featured in the Sac Bee a few months back and most billy goat riders are familiar with this ride known as Around the Lake. We're about 3/4 of the way through the summer season, and this ride should give all a chance to test their legs and prep for that grand century ride which looms in the near future.
Due to the climbing involved with this ride it is recommended only for intermediate and beyond cyclists.
We will meet at the Folsom Bike Parking lot 7610 Folsom-Auburn Road. Meet at 7:30 am and we will DEPART by 7:45 am sharp! Please arrive no later than 7:30 am so we can leave on time.
There will be a couple of regroup points with lunch in Auburn.

Everyone has to conquered the Folsom Lake Circuit at least once. It's going to be an epic ride with some amazing climbs. Plus, you'll have all day Monday to recover.
This is a great ride, you will love it. You can descend faster than cars on the fun way out of cool to the confluence. It's only tightly twistie at the top, and the turns open up a little after the first two or three. I planned on doing this ride but my bike was stolen this weekend : (
have fun
The 2nd or 3rd corner (it's a right hand turn) on the descent is really tight. Make sure to slow down for it! And please stay single file on Salmon Falls. Cars and motorcycles take that road pretty fast.
Just a quick question, will we be done/back to Folsom Bike by 3PM?
"Alex" Depending on how many times the group stops, you should be back by 11:30-12:30. which is roughly 13 mph avg. but you make up a lot of time coming down Auburn Folsom out of Newcastle.
I'm looking to get done with the ride around noon. The weather forecasts says it should be in the mid 80's, so we wont have to worry about the heat. I really like the group that is forming for this ride. There are some really strong riders on this one.
I would so do this with you guys if my muppet hand was 100 percent :-"
"javier" I'll stand in for you if you let me borrow your bike. : )
LOL Paul ...actually I'm tearing her apart tomorow and doing a throught cleaning and relubbing of all components ....she's a "dirty girl" right now!!
Oh not to mention I plan on riding her hard and putting here away wet on the other Sunday ride!!
Rode this loop today. Ended up with about 4100 ft of climbing on my Garmin.
is that with elevation corrections? I am just hoping me riding without sunglasses will not be an issue for me.
No elevation correction. That's the raw data. Elevation correction will not get the green bridge, it'll go all the way down to the water and back out.
Had a blast! Lots of great people, nice weather, had a great time.

Great job Paul, we were hammering it down Auburn Folsom back to the shop. Those staggart rides definitely are paying off for you!
Great ride today! Thanks! Cyclemeter on my iPhone measured at 50 miles and 3540 feet of climbing. I'm having a beer now to reward myself!
Great route and great people as usual! Thanks for organizing Justin!
We couldn't have asked for better conditions for this ride. The weather was wonderful, beautiful views, and the traffic ended up being just fine. I can't say enough about this great group of strong riders who were able to keep the pace fun. Thanks to all who came out, and made this ride a success. Btw, Joel you were right, that 3rd right on the descent to the confluence was mighty wicked. Now time to kick back and enjoy the rest of the weekend.
This is a really challenging ride, especially when it's done later in the day when the temps are in the high 80s to mid 90s (like when I rode it last). The descent from Cool is pretty technical with nasty, steep and tight turns that drop away and corkscrew hard-a great forearm workout and brake burner. You really have to be careful along that segment. It's amazing that Chris Horner could do 18-20 on the Old Foresthill Rd climb. That's the fastest some cyclists can only manage on the flats.
