This is a great ride I've done with the Bike Hikers in the past. With this weekend looking to be a nice one weather wise let's do this as it's been a while.
This will be a fast paced ride. If any other AO would like to lead a slower group let me know.
We will meet at the Park & Ride lot in Winters on the corner of Railroad Ave and Main. Take Hwy 128 (Covell Blvd) from Davis; in Winters, turn left at Railroad Ave. We will DEPART by 8:30 am sharp! Please arrive no later than 8:15 am so we can leave on time. I'd suggest getting there around 8 am so you have time to use the restroom and grab a cup of joe if you like at Steady Eddies.
Here is a link to the map and elevation profile.
Here is a link to the cue sheet in PDF format. I'll bring a few extras.
Elevation gain is about 3800' unless you add the optional out-and-back on Mix Canyon. Except for Cantelow and Mix Canyon most of the climbing is completed in the first 26 miles.
This scenic route cruises up Hwys 128 and 121, visiting such sites as Monticello Dam, Cardiac Hill, Moskowite Corner, Wooden Valley, Gordon Valley and Mankas Corner. We return through Fairfield, Pleasants Valley, Cantelow, and the English Hills area to Winters.
There will be regrouping points for fluids, snacks, and lunch that I will put on the cue sheet. We will stop in Fairfield for lunch at Subway.
Things that are required...Helmet, 2 water bottles or camel back, snacks, $$$ for lunch/fluids, sunscreen, and spare tube/patch kit. You must be comfortable riding on rural roads w/ traffic.
E-mail me if you have any questions...

Oh yeah, and if you're up for a challenge - hit Mix Canyon. One of the hardest climbs in northern California.
Hey Mica,
I grew up in Fairfield. You might want to just go Lyon's Rd. - Hillborn Rd. - Waterman Rd. - Mankas Corner Rd. This is the route that the Davis Century takes to get through this town.
Otherwise you're just going to ride through a lot of traffic and neighborhoods in Fairfield. It will shorten your ride a little bit, but you'll gain a little more in elevation gain. Plus, I think it makes for a much prettier ride. Fairfield is kind of drab
It's just a suggestion.
Justin
Thanks for the comments guys. I go through Fairfield so we can stop for lunch around mile 41. Unless you know of a place to eat at on any of the roads you mentioned.
I've been up the first two miles of Mix Canyon. Depedning on how hot it is Sunday I may venture up there, but may wait for even cooler weather so I don't bake on the treck back to Winters as there isn't much shade.
Scott, I'll drive that strech you mentioned coming out of Winters on Putah Creek afterward Sunday and check it out.
Frank, the psychologist certainly was interesting. Good thing you "warmed up" after all the climbing was done and hammered the last 6 miles to drop him, lol. Stopped in Steady Eddies aftward and enjoyed their special of the day, Thomas Kemper rootbeer float. Totally hit the spot.
This is a great route that I've done a bunch of times (I live in Davis). A couple of small changes you might consider: the ride out Putah Creek Rd. from Winters to Lake Solano (and then a short distance on Pleasants Valley Rd to hit 128) is more pleasant than taking 128 out of Winters, but it's not a big deal. In Fairfield, you can avoid a lot of the un-scenic "urban" stretch by taking Waterman to Vista Grande to Hillborn. It shortens the ride a bit, but also adds a little elevation gain. Enjoy!
