Auburn Raley's Parking Lot (map)
Ride Summary:
Terrain: Moderately hilly
Distance: approx 32 Miles
Speed: NA (everyone climbs at their own pace)
Rider Level: Very Strong Beginners with climbing experience and up.
Sweep: Casual climbers, Yes. Experienced climbers No.
Meet 7:00, first group rolls at 7:15am, faster group rolls at 7:35.
A simple out and back from Auburn to Wortons Market in Foresthill! It's a bit over 32 miles round trip and total climb for the ride is about 3000 feet, 2/3s of which is on the way out. Most climbs on this ride are under a mile and between 4-6% grade... there are two climbs however, that are close to two miles long, start out at 5-6% and have portions at 8-9+% toward the end... leg burners for sure! Since there are no turns on this route you can turn around at any time without the fear of getting lost.
This ride is not for beginners. A very strong beginner with hill climbing experience will be OK, but the climb from Folsom to Beals Point should not be any problem and climbs like Sierra College Blvd and Indian Hill are very doable for you! Spring Series grads should be looking for their next challenge by now, this is it.
On this ride, speed is not as important as getting to the top! A "Can Do" attitude is a major plus! The ride will be swept so if you attend you will not be holding anyone up, this is a go at your pace type of ride. You can also turn around when ever you wish.
We will split into 2+ groups and do a "rolling start". Riders who climb at a more casual pace will leave at 7:15am, then the stronger riders 20 minutes after that. This is done so everyone arrives at the break point at about the same time.
The bike lanes on Foresthill Road are very wide but the traffic just blazes along on this road which can be unnerving if not used to that. Check your equipment, there are lots of downhills so good brakes and tires are a must!
Bring plenty of water and snacks are there is nothing available along the way. If you are late you can catch up to us or meet in Foresthill behind Wortons Market, which is our only rest stop.
Helmets are required as always.
As always please let me know if you have any questions.
The ride takes me a little less than 2 hours to get there and about 40 minutes to get back. Depending on how long we break you can expect 3-4 hours. I will be leaving Auburn at about 7:25 and sweeping the first person I catch, if anyone.
I'm thinking about extending my ride down Mosquito Ridge just to the first bridge at the bottom. Adds about 20 miles total & about 1900' climbing. Approximately 1 mile to Mosquito Ridge Road, 9 miles down, 9 miles up and 1 back to Wortons. But I may leave early so I can meet the group at Wortons on the break.
Woops! Paulo! here's the route from ride with gps for a previous ride, April 17th.

Jeff, I'm gonna animal in from either my house or Coffee Republic so if I'm not there by the time the first group rolls, consider me "in the fast group" and I'll see you all on the route or at the break:)
FYI for everyone, I rode this a couple of weeks ago and the road is in fine shape-no fresh tar

Got a late start & decided to drive straight to Foresthill to do Mosquito.
Sorry I missed you all at Wortons, and Raleys on my way home.
Sounds like you all had a great ride!
Never did this one, but will do it again next time! Great group of riders.
When are we expecting to come back to the parking lot? Would it take 4-5 hours or longer for my level? Anyone?
