Several ride options with varying levels of difficulty.
More information to come.
I rode this on my motorcycle two years ago and it was hard! The ride out of Bear Valley starts out uphill and gets harder all the way. Pacific Grade not only has 24% pitches, they are in tight narrow corners. This ride gives you relentless red zone love...
I'm registered.
It's 101 miles, and 10,000 feet. Stout, especially with a 7000 base altitude. But likely doable.
This was perhaps the most scenic century I've done to date--and probably the most brutal as well. Started with a 20 mile descent in 40 degree weather, and didn't seem to warm up much all day. Winds on Ebbett's pass (tail AND head winds), snow flurries at the summit, and a few huge gusts at the steepest part of the Pacific Grade (24%) threw me for a loop during the last 30 miles. A Death Ride-ish century, for sure. 129 total riders -- pretty lonely going...

If you like to climb, this would be a good ride next year. I would say it's not as hard as the Death Ride, but it's 30 miles shorter, and something around 4,000 ft less. But do not mistake, the climbs on this ride are brutal. On the foot of climb per mile calculation, I think it's slightly more than DR.
There were 127 registered riders, but about 24 were 1/2 century, and there were 30 no shows. So I'd say somewhere around 75 did the century. ALL will get guaranteed DR 2011 entries!!!
It was very cold all day. The climb from Hermit Valley to Ebbetts Summit at 5.5 miles seemed harder than it was on the DR. The two rides have that one climb in common, naught else.
Pacific Grade is 24%, but only 2 miles, several flat spots for very brief recoveries before standing to inch up major grades.
And very under stated/rated, the spur to Spicer Reservoir has climbs that will test the metal of even the strongest.

is my track.
Thanks Jeff for putting this on the calendar.
I'm still looking it over, looking for reviews of the ride, support wise, accomodations information etc.
Will add any info I dig up, and a final decision on going asap. So far it's definitely looking like a stay at least the night before is going to be needed.
