The Tour de Folsom is a series of hill rides that start and end in Folsom, but venture up into El Dorado Hills for more verticality. The TdeF III is the toughest of the series, and features three great downhills, Serrano Blvd & Beatty Drive in EDH, and Iron Point Rd in Folsom along with over 2800' of climbing. This a a recycled version of that ride, doing a counterclockwise circuit instead of the normal clockwise one. Plus we've added a new loop in order to introduce the newly discovered Starbuck Rd out in Cameron Park. Don't worry, the new road is largely rolling or downhill, but nice and smooth. That accounts for the extra mileage on this ride.
Going up the three major hills is a lot tougher than going down them, and the total elevation gain will be in excess of 3800'. It is not for the casual rider. But the roads are largely smooth and in residential areas, with the exception of Bass Lake Rd and Deer Valley Rd.
This is NOT intended to be a hammer fest no a slow and pokey ride, but somewhere inbetween. I will ride at the advertised pace, if you feel the need to hammer let me know so I don't wonder where you wandered to.
Meetup at 7 am, Depart by 7:15 am
Yada, yada, yada, water bottle, helmet, etc. No SAG, we'll wait at the tops of the hills, but if it is too much for you, we'll tell you the easy way home. There will also be several "Senior Discounts" as Steve likes to say
that will cut off some miles and a little bit of climbing throughout the ride. Depending on the heat and time we may take them.
Here is a link to the map and cue sheet. There are two planned stops for water and restrooms on the cue sheet. Please print your own, something to keep it visible, and baggy to keep it dry, cause you might sweat a little.
See you bright and early on Sunday and e-mail me if you have any questions.
Steve, I'm handing over my man card at the beginning of the ride. No way I'm gonna keep pace with Sarah two days in a row. I'm gonna give it my all on Saturday though!
I get the distinct impression that Sarah must come have come from a racing background, or is preparing herself to move up to the racing ranks if she can ride like the comments that have been posted by other members. Going full throttle like she did last weekend on that tough route was impressive to read about. I'll see how I do.
Phil, I don't like starting this early either, but I don't wanna be going up those hills in the heat of the day...or you might hear me yell "Puking on your left!".
Yea Mica, climbing is rough in the heat and they are calling for another warm one on Sunday.
Lee....Sarah told me just started riding on the road recently, although she has been doing spin classes for a long time. The way she rides she probably has worn out a few of those spin bikes. There is no doubt she could race...she is the strongest gal on two wheels I have come across.
I got dropped from the break (bummer), but you go to cut me some slack after all it was Phil and Sarah setting the pace. It's okay, because Jeff K. and I were hanging strong in the chase. A very challenging ride, but well planned and super fun. A great group of talented riders and kudos to Mica for setting it up. Rock on!
Thanks Mica for the ride i had a good time. well run. Once i got to deer valley i knew my way back, so i picked it up notch.it was a good w/o for me. everyone in the group was very friendly. hope to ride with you again.
Who is Sarah going to thrash this time? Or more to the point, who won't she thrash?
