F21 Hatchery to Jackson Hwy via South Canal Sprint Series

FISH HATCHERY (map)

Selected By: Jeff Sanford

Ride Summary:

Terrain: Flat with a few optional steep short hills
Distance: approx ~21 Miles
Rider Level: Intermediate riders and up.
Sweep: No

You should be able to maintain a pace of 17-19 mph for ~15 flat miles on your own if you want to stay with the back of the pack. The pace varies from 19-25+ mph depending on the pace line you ride with.

This bi-weekly ride will be a fast paced ride designed to build endurance, speed, and practice pacelines. We'll meet at 5pm and leave at 5:15pm or before if all the Yes RSVPs are present. Please update your RSVP if you cannot make the event. We'll ride .25 miles to the entrance of the South Canal and head west. There are 2 road crossings where we need to exercise caution, Sunrise and Whiterock. Once the coast is clear we'll continue on the trail down to Jackson Hwy. We'll take a short break, then head back to the Hatchery. We should be back to the Hatchery by no later than 6:30.

Do not be discouraged if you get dropped on this ride. The break does not start until the last rider arrives at the break point. The idea is to push yourself but please exercise caution, we don't need anyone having any issues because they pushed themselves too hard. PLEASE KNOW YOUR LIMITS!

Here is a link that give some good pointers on dos and don'ts while in a paceline.

Paceline etiquette

Please bring plenty of water and as always your helmet is required.

Thanks for the comment Mica. I'm trying to get in some hill work on the Tuesdays we aren't doing Beale's. Looking forward to jumping back on this ride in late September though...btw, congrats on the huge turnout at your ride this weekend. That was crazy!

If we are getting stale crackers on the Canal ride we can always work an Iron Point run in there too. Let me know and I'll me it up a little bit.

I did like the Canal ride but Iron Point sounds like a great idea to mix it up. What if we rotated the route between three areas? Three turn around areas Iron Point, Beale's, and the Canal. Every Tuesday is a different area rotating between the three areas, all three rides starting from the Fish Hatchery. Just an idea as input

OK, I'll skip the canal in two week in favor of the Iron Point run. I'll update the rides as soon as I get some time. Next week, Beals, Two weeks, Iron Point. 3 weeks back to the canal.

How about just alternating The Canal and Iron Point? Keep Beals every other week.

I like the beale's run every other week, not sure how the iron point route ends...does it stop before the Costco hill? Honestly I like the canal ride too, I'm just trying something new in prep for a few events at the end of this month.

I love seeing new faces on these rides, 3 of them tonight! The head wind on the way out was beyond brutal. Different story with it at our back, nice to hang with the lead back for a change.lol Back to Beals next week!

The head wind sure was brutal tonight on the way out. To top it off we didn't have Curt to pull us through it ;-p 19.0 average on the way out. The fast return bumped that back up to 20.4 average. Did get in some nice spurts of 30 mph on the way back. See you guys again on this ride on the week of Thanksgiving cause that will be my next free Tuesday...
