FISH HATCHERY (map)
Ride Summary:
Terrain: Mild hills at 5% grade with a few short sections of 7%
Distance: approx 18 Miles
Rider Level: Intermediate riders and up.
Sweep: No
You should be able to maintain a pace of 17-19 mph for ~15 flat miles on your own if you want to stay with the back of the pack. The pace varies from 19-25+ mph depending on the pace line you ride with.
This biweekly ride will be a fast paced ride designed to build endurance and speed. We'll meet at 5pm and leave at 5:15pm or before if all the Yes RSVPs are present. We'll ride up the Hazel Bridge and take the trail on the north side of Lake Natoma all the way to Beals Point. Once we arrive at Beals we'll read down to the restrooms on the left side of the lot and take a quick break then head back to the Hatchery. We should be back to the hatchery by no later than 6:30.
Do not be discouraged if you get dropped on this ride. PLEASE KNOW YOUR LIMITS!
Please bring plenty of water and as always your helmet is required.
If you have any questions please let me know
Javier? I used to remember someone by that name. memory..fuzzy..must be the heat.
Jef, leaving my house now - which is probably too late. Client went long on me. So sorry. Still trying to make it anyways. I am NOT bailing on you, I just might not make it on time. Have fun if I miss out!

Good times - what a great paced ride! Thanks for having me along, folks! I'll try to hit the 27th as well!
Those that were still there "got the lecture". Everyone agreed going forward the decent from Beals to the bathrooms at the bottom of Greenback and Folsom Blvd is a "neutral" or cruising zone. There is no need to blaze down this hill or even worse passing on a blind corner. Accidents are going to happen but this one was preventable. If we can't be safer I will not post this ride anymore and we'll suffer with the Canal ride every week.
Hey Scott, a group of us talked after the ride about rolling nuetral all the way to negro bar - no passing, no moves, everyone just takes it easy on that descent...and I think Jeff S. is onboard with making that change.
I really think that's the way to go. With the trail being narrow and there being regular traffic, there's just no room for error, and it's not worth it - not to mention, I don't think I've ever witnessed a significant advantage gained on the descent.
All future Tuesday Beals rides have added this new rule. Beals to the Negro Bar is now a "take is easy" zone. Single file and stay in your lane.
I am thankful that we are all on board with the new "rules". God forbid the Canal Ride every week - the ultimate torture ;)
Yeah Uncle Phil, don't make me change your nickname to Aunt Phil!!
