B/F-27 Granite Bay / Lake Natoma Training Loop

27 miles
1600 feet
'B' rated for pace, 'F' for the easy course
NOT SWEPT - we will regroup up at Hazel Crossing & Beal's Point

8:30 start for Sarah!

I am flexible on the start time (an hour either way is fine so propose something that works better for you).

This is a routine mid-week training I have done for years. Most of it is on the bike path and features some good, short, bursty climbs and a good pace for a good 90-minute workout. The loop around the lake is always pretty and inspiring. What better way to break a sweat!

As usual, you must be self-supporting (tubes, food, etc.). The route has plenty of water.

The start is at the corner of Castle Creek Drive & Old Auburn in Roseville. Email me for how to get in the gate if you would like to park or meet at my home which is 200 yards from that corner. The meetup start map shows the meetup point slightly to the East of the actual location.

The route can be found here.

Bad weather cancels.

Scottl, will you be doing these after this week? Now that DR training is over I don't have my thursdays booked up with long rides ...and I'm riding easy this week (and most of next week).

That was a good workout, and it was fun trying to keep up with the pace. It was my first experience on the bike trail, and was admittedly not comfortable with it -- worrying too much about pedestrians/slow bikes/babystrollers in those tight sections...I'm happy just to stay on the road, I think.

    James,

The bike trail can be dangerous but, 99% of that is under your control (paying attention, knowing when to let up on corners, holding your lines, etc). On the road, death is one driver with a cell-phone in his/her hand away. I am not trying to convert you, but for my money, cars are big, ugly, deadly beasts just waiting to send me to my grave. The worst bike on bike crash is better than the best car on bike crash. Or something like that. I would suggest you post your favorite ride.

staggart: I just don't want to be the guy that plows into a pedestrian at 20+mph, and am trying to avoid to circumstances that might lead to that.
I do sometimes lead rides (on the road) for another Meetup Group, Cool Cycling, here on the Georgetown Divide. Much less traffic up here, beautiful scenery, but very little flat ground -- that's why I like visiting you all from time to time. ;) Stay safe, thanks again!

I wish I could have made it! I typically slow way down when passing pedestrians on the trail--not to mention young kids swerving side to side. Like any busy path or road cutting blind corners should be avoided as much as possible. Imagine the collision between two road cyclist both traveling at 30+ mph. Also runners travel on the left side of the bike path--on your right sholder. There are too many bad scenarios to list--just use common sense and accidents can be avoided.

Thanks for the ride, and letting me drop in. I'd love to ride with you again. I have to get on the road bike more (been on the MTB lately). I love riding on the ARBP, but I love the bell too (even if it adds weight :) it lets the kiddos know I'm coming by). see you soon.

    Janell,

You are welcome anytime - announced or not. You are a good rider and I would really like to encourage more women to come out and get into and stay in cycling. I will be gone for the next two weeks but I think some people will still meet here and start at 8:30. Stay tuned for some of my longer rides in the mountains when I get back.
