World’s Greatest Bicycle Parade

Davis Odd Fellows Present: The World’s Greatest Bicycle Parade

Parade Rules

Our goal is to set the Guinness World Record for Largest Parade of Bicycles. The current record is 3515 bicycles. The community of Davis can easily break that record. However, Guinness has specific rules which govern “bicycle parades.” Each and every rider in the parade must be aware of these rules. If we don’t follow the rules, we don’t set the world record.

  • For the purpose of this record, a bicycle is defined as a two-wheeled vehicle powered only by pedaling. Only bicycles (two-wheeled) may participate in the parade. Bicycles with 3 or more wheels, training wheel, trailers, addes wheels are not permitted.
  • All bicycles participating in this world record attempt must be moving – it is not acceptable merely to park them in a row.
  • The minimum distance of the parade must be 2 miles from the starting point to the finish.
  • All bicycles must cross the start line and cycle the length of the route to the finish line.
  • If a bicycle cannot complete the route, that vehicle must be deducted from the total count.
  • There must be no significant ‘gaps’ in the flow of bicycles. The bicycles in the parade may not be more than two bicycle-lengths apart during the parade.
  • The following must all be recorded for each bicycle entrant in the parade: name and telephone number of the bicycle rider, the make and model of each bicycle.
  • Bike riders are encouraged to pre-register before October 3 to save time and energy on the day of the parade. Registration will be open on the day of the parade, but we hope that 90% or more of the riders will have pre-registered.
  • The route of the bike parade will wind through Davis streets. Traffic will be blocked along the parade route. Riders will travel the route 3 or 4 abreast, anchored by a lead rider supplied by the Davis Bike Club. All riders in the parade must follow the direction of the lead rider.
  • Only riders 10 years of age or older may participate in the parade. Children must wear helmets; adults are strongly encouraged to wear helmets.

I am baffled by the web site's stated limit of 1,200 registrants! The record is 3,515 so how will they break it is they limit it to 1,200? See http://worldsgreatestbicycleparade.com/blog/

    Do they mean 1,200 kids?

    What am I missing?
