B62 - Loomis/Auburn Loop-de-Loop-de-Loop-de-Loop

62 +- miles
5300 feet climbing
'B+' rated ride, advanced intermediate
NOT SWEPT - we will regroup at logical places on the route
7:00am meetup time at Loomis Park off I-80
6:45am Carpool meetup time at Park-N-Ride near sunsplash.

I have just been informed that the road the google maps shows going South off of King into the park is actually named "Ong". Anyway, let's meet in the parking lot in the park that is on the south side of King road.

Meetup time in Loomis is now 7:00am

This ride was written up in the SacBee (see here) a week or so back. It looks like a good local hill challenge so let's give it a shot. It is rated "B" because of the hill steepness and pace we will ride at (medium-aggressive). This is a good "cool-down" ride the week before the Death Ride.

This is a totally new route and ride for me, so we will all be route guides.

We will start in Loomis Regional Park but let's try to carpool there, if possible.

As usual, you must be self-supporting (tubes, food, etc.) but there should be some places to stop for snacks/food, etc. (Newcastle comes to mind).

The route can be found here.

Please carpool where possible. If you'd like to carpool directly from my house in Roseville, please send me an email for directions. I live near Hazel & Old Auburn and can hold three additional bikes.

More than likely we will split into multiple groups based on pace. This will allow everyone to ride at a pace comfortable for themselves. We can have at least one sweep for each group.

Sheesh, hammer hammer hammer... even UP the hills? This was quite a ride. Terrific ride with great riders. Many thanks, Scott. I kept wondering when people would run out of gas, but it never happened. Everyone really ate their Wheaties for this one...

Big time efforts by all today! Sarah's amazing ability to push gear up the hills inspired me! My Garmin says my average HR was the highest ever. FUN!

Great ride with a great group. Definitely up there on the work-out and chaos scale! I have never done 80% of this and would love to do this as a regular tune-up route. It's just the right length and difficulty for a great 1/2 day hammerfest. As Mica suggested, planned stops, etc. would make this much better. My bad for not knowing the route, so next time we can do better there. Sarah, please have delivered to my home 100 metric tons of whatever you are eating!! Joe, you kept the staggart clan from looking as bad as I rode today! Thanks guys & girl for a slice of humble pie - I am still trying to wash it down with warm beer! Seriously, I came home and slept for 3 hours. See some of you on the Death Ride.

Real nice ride and interesting route. Was great to ride with everyone. Scott, you come up with some really great rides! I like your idea of making this a regular haunt.

Great route, a lot of the hills were new for me-first time up Chili and Baxter the ride went by very quickly-maybe it was because of all the hammering ;-) Welcome to the group Jordan and Sara.

This group is in a league of it's own. If you ever have trouble sleeping, forget the pill. Take a Staggart group ride. Guaranteed to knock you out. So many hills in one day, I have to thank Charles for keeping me in the loop as he swept, and for good pointers to avoid the bonk hill. I'm still amazed how Joe could climb all those hills on a single speed and still keep up with them sledge hammers.

I had a great time today. good climbing, great company. Sarah is an animal on the bike. Great job! Made us boys work hard! Joe is the animal of the day! All those hills on a SS. Wish I had mine so we could worked together. Not sure if I could have climbed those hill like you did? I am very strong on a SS, but have never done that many hills on a ride.

Great slug-fest before the Death Ride. I need a nap.

Two years ago, this ride would have been "off-the-charts-difficult" for the Hammerin' Wheels. In fact, nobody could have done it at today's pace. So this was a perfect demonstration on how much better the riders have become, although staying on the route proved to be as challenging as riding it. Great job, everyone, and a big thank you to Scott for another challenging and adventurous ride.

The Hammerin' Wheels groups sure did live up to their name on this ride. Everyone brought their "A" game and I kept getting dropped like 3rd period french...lol. This is quite a tasty ride with many punishing climbs, most we have done before, but some new ones thrown in there. I really liked this route and will definitely do it again. We'll have to throw in some formal regroups and/or rest stops now that we know the route a bit better. Thanks Scott for putting this on!
