This is it! As another club organized event (LA Wheelmen) by a club that really knows how to "do it right", the GRAND TOUR is one of my favorite doubles. Super support and fun, fun, fun! It's actually a choice of a double metric, two double centuries (one with 5,000 ft and the other with 8500 ft. of climbing), a triple (yes, 300 miles, and a quad (400 miles!). The later four are good for triple crown credit on your way to a jersey . . . This is one of the most scenic set of rides, with parts going along the ocean and beaches towns, and through the coastal canyons and valleys around Malibu. It's the primo ride!
DOUBLE METRIC CENTURY CHALLENGE: Shortened version of the Double Century (down to 125 miles), but keeps the best scenery in a hilly, very challenging ride. Latigo Canyon, Westlake, Lake Sherwood, Moorpark for lunch, Oxnard, Port Hueneme, Pacific Coast Hwy. and back to Malibu.
LOWLAND DOUBLE: An ideal First Time Double! This ride features fewer hills but more urban riding. Oxnard, Moorpark, Ventura, to Ojai for lunch. Return to Malibu via Carpinteria, Port Hueneme, PCH.
HIGHLAND DOUBLE: A hillier route in and out of the Ojai lunch stop, but more scenery, lower traffic, and sometimes more favorable winds between Ojai and Carpinteria, as riders circle Lake Casitas.
TRIPLE: A fully supported Triple Century. Follow the Lowland or Highland double route, continue north from Carpinteria through Santa Barbara to Gaviota turnaround. Then straight down the coast to the finish.
QUADRUPLE: The ultimate 24-hour challenge for ultra-distance cyclists! Finish a Lowland or Highland Triple in Malibu, then put that extra energy into a final 100-mile loop to Ventura and back.
FEES:
Double Metric Century Challenge $40; Double Century $60; Triple Century $70; Quadruple Century $80

I can also help with good and inexpensive places to stay. I typically stay in Calabasas at the "Good Nite Inn". It's clean and $53 (one person) through Expedia (please verify) and a pretty short drive from the ride start/end.

It's Grand Tour Double weekend coming up! Saturday is supposed to hit highs of 78 to 80 from Malibu to Ojai (Ojai normally fries; we are big time lucky!). Sacramento is supposed to reach 96. We are off to the land of sand and surf!
Perry and all, it may be down right cool in the morning. I have done this ride when it was so overcast and foggy in the morning we didn't see sun until we crested El Protrero Road. I'm happy about the forecast though.
It's supposed to get down to 58 at night . . . not bad! I've never worried about being cold on Potrero! :-) Dead maybe, but not cold.
Hey Perry, I booked the 25th and 26th at the Good Nite Inn. Hope to see you there. I'll be there with my daughter and husband although the 19 yr old daughter will spend the day at the beach or window shopping on Rodeo Dr.
