Holland to Rio D37/D50

Delta High School (map)

Selected By: Perry

Ride Summary:
Terrain: Flat
Distance: 37/50 miles
Elevation Gain: 377 ft.
Speed: 14+ mph
Rider Level: (Advanced Beginner)
Sweep: Yes

Grab your passport, we’re going traveling by bike, bridge and barge for an easy spin in the Delta. This ride is just for fun, fun , fun, with only 377 feet of elevation gain and the promise of a really nice clear day by the weatherman. I love this ride; it travels along the open water ways, an emerging wine country, and groves of fruit trees. The ride starts in Clarksburg just South of Sacramento and "jets" along the tops of the levees for a basically flat trip with a couple of (free) ferry crossings to/from Rio Vista. There’s a rest stop at a fantastic little old-fashioned bakery in Rio Vista, so bring a few $s for snacks, pack your bags, and let’s fly. Meet in the parking lot in front of Delta High School, 52810 Netherlands Rd in Clarksburg. There's normally is a porta-potty at the school, but not guaranteed, so plan your arrival accordingly! :-)

This ride is intended for all levels. If you're a "speedee" you'll love it for zipping along the levee tops, but you'll be ahead of the rest of us. I'll be sweeping the ride, and no one will be left behind, so if you want a more relaxed pace, you'll have the company of Kathy and myself. Please be sure that you bring your road bike, not a hybrid, as this is still a 50 mile trip (25 miles each way). There is a 37 mile shorter option, but you'll miss out on the stop in Rio vista. As usual, bring a helmet, water, etc. If you have any questions, please call me: [masked].

The servers at my work are down for maintenance this weekend, so I've also posted the Route Sheet to the Hammerin' Wheels files section . . .

Route Sheet: http://files.meetup.c...

I will also bring copies of the route sheet with me.

Thanks for a great time - even if it included an unplanned metric century. This was one way to speed up the training plan. Perry and Cathy were fantastic riding buddies. Can't wait to ride with you again!!

Fantastic group! Real troopers considering the headwinds in the morning, and the Caltrans ferry rerouting of our ride (Q: What makes a 50 mile ride into a metric century? A: A Caltrans ferry breakdown.) Congratulations to Daphni, Lorraine, and I think Kym, on completion of their first metric centuries. Daphni, you're ready to go for the Cinderella! And who would have expected the impromptu "dancing with the stars" (Marsh and Andrea) doing it to the Commodores "Brickhouse" in Isleton. And thanks also to Marsh for the after-ride cake! Wow, what a day!

Had a great ride - and made my daughters birthday party (whew!). I "only" did 53 miles (thanks to a slight detour) next to you hardcore metric century types:> Thanks again to Perry for organizing.

Well the Ferry broke down so we got detoured 12 miles, but that took us to Isleton Joes where there was some live music and dancing!
