Ever done a Decide & Ride? No? Here's how it works. We get together at the start and talk about options. We, as a group "decide" on where to ride to next. That could be 5 or 25 miles away. When we get to that point we repeat. It's not a democracy or a consensus. It's what it is and you never know what you'll get next except some good miles and good leg-busting hills in Amador county. Come out and take a chance. Be ready to ride hard and not have a route sheet. This is a "moderate/advanced" foothill ride. You must be in good hill-climbing shape and have a good base.
We will have two car meetup points: The Fish Hatchery where we can carpool from and Ione, CA at the "Old Ivan", the steam engine, next to to Ione Police station. This is a regular Sacramento and Stockton Cycling club cyclist's meeting point for all rides Amador. Meetup at the hatchery is 8:00, Ione is 9:00. Here is the Starting Point in Ione which is a 45 min. drive from the hatchery.
You should come self-prepared since we will not stop at every opportunity.
Amador County is a premier place for road cycling in California, if not the US. It has some of the most challenging roads with low population density and generally very light traffic. The scenery is always rustic and gorgeous, even more so this time of the year. Come out and try a ride on some of the most challenging and pretty roads anywhere. Once you have ridden here you will not want to ride anywhere else! Did I mention the great riding?
The Route:
As always, helmets are required. Bring food and/or money for the coffee shops.
Rain cancels.

Yeah, I need that elevation climb. I'll meet you at the hatchery and we'll roshambo for the carpool.
I am going to be bring my two sons, so the pace will be moderate.
Next Time!!! I try to take the boys out every few weeks. They did well on Diablo but they are still 70 pounders so there is only so much you can ask of them! Their bikes weight 1/3 their body weight!!
Joe,
You are becoming the most ardent supporter of the staggart rides!! It may be just you and me on Saturday!!
