Distance: 30 miles
Sweep: NO
Skill Level: Advanced Beginner and Up
Terrain: Bike Trail
Pace: 14-16 mph Very Casual (No Hammerheads please)
Time for a break from all the Spring Event Training. Let's ride just to ride, chat with friends, catch up, share war stories, and have breakfast at one of HW's favorite coffee shops.
We'll meet at the water fountain / restroom area of William B Pond and leave promptly at 7:45 AM.
The pace is very casual. The goal of this ride is to just relax and noodle along the bike trail to have breakfast at Karen's Bakery. No hammerheads please.
Please bring your bike, snacks, water, helmet and whatever else you need to be self-sufficient on this ride. Most importantly, bring your positive and fun attitude.
As is the usual for my Karen's Bakery rides, if you want to move on and do something else after Karen's, you're most welcome to do so.
PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS NOT A SWEPT RIDE.
Cya!
Lourdes - reflecting on Blaines comment and the impending chick filled weekend for Otis, I am betting he will want to take a break. While I do not speak for him, it is just a guess on my part. :o)
Who's the lucky guy on the pink terry, Kevin? :)
Yes Lourdes I am sure it will be a nice ride. I am sorry to miss it.
Just an FYI to anyone that may be planning to park at the Aquatic Center or Hatchery and either join the ride in progress or riding up to WPP. There will be another rowing event there this weekend so parking will be difficult at best, I suggest you head up to Sunrise. We can also expect some very heavy foot traffic as we pass though the Aquatic Center.
What is the estimated time of arrival at Karen's? I will be meeting you all there. I am not allowed to ride yet.
I will most likely add some miles after Karens. A Beals addition will take me over 300 for the week, first time! But willing to think about other routes.
Hummm...
1) No idea what you're talking about Warren!
2) I won't if you won't?
3) Mountain bikes & we leave Discovery at 7:15?
No MTB for me but I'll meet at Discovery Park if anyone is game. I might need to give myself more than 30 minutes from Discovery to WBP, not looking to do 20+ at any point tomorrow. 7am departure too much time? I'll be riding in from Sunrise. No worries if it is too much of a pain. I'm easy like that. : ) Looking forward to some karen's yumminess!
I was just mess'n with Warren, Jeff. But if ya twist my arm a tiny bit, I might be convinced to make a Guy West Bridge meetup. WBP is an easy 20 minutes from there, 30 for a little buffer. But you know the trail is closed between Lower WBP boat launch and WBP. Just have to ride some surface streets to get there.
Ahh, didn't know the trail was closed, good thing I posted something. I'll prolly just do a Beals run before the ride. Thanks anyway!
Jeff, are you going to Beals Point from Sunrise? Then go to Karen's or go to WBP? I'd like to join you at Fish Hatchery or Sunrise to get more miles. Please let me know. Thanks, Julie
Julie or anyone else who may want to join, I'll do Beals from Sunrise then back to WBP before the ride. I'll should be at the Sunrise "Y" at about 5:30. Hatchery by 5:45, Beals by 6:25, quick break, back to Hatchery by 7:00, WBP by 7:35-7:40...not that I have it mapped out or anything. Official sun rise is 6:01 am so it may be dark for the first few minutes. Not to mention it a little chill in the air, 49 is the forecast for this time. Just let me know.
I think this closure is only on the 5th and 12th

I'll be leaving around 7:00 am from the Hatchery
Dave the closure mentioned is the one between lower WBP and WBP. It's been fenced off to bike and foot traffic for about a week, and scheduled closed through May 17th, if they finish on schedule.
The surface street detour isn't much, bumpier than the bike trail, but low to no traffic.
Not ready for a chilly ride, I'll just make the regular startup at Pond, but likely do Beals after Karens.
Jeff, I will be at Fish Hatchery at 5:45 or earlier. I should bring my light. Thanks!
Is everyone still meeting at W. Pond Park? With the trail repair, will we be able to use the trail all the way to karens? or will we be routed to Gold Country Blvd, cross hazel and take the trail around the aquatic center?
It was great to take it easy and chat! Nice meeting Scott, Mark, Mike and Susan today! Thank you, Lourdes...
Had so much fun and it was a really friendly group. I'm looking forward to more rides with the HW!
Looking back, so many folks I didn't get to meet! Maybe next time. And it's not a frown I'm wearing these days, just my dang braces making it really hard to smile! So check the eyes, the twinkle is there substituting for the lips that can't quite turn up at the corners! :D
I might bring my old-school steel bike (if I can remember how to use downtube shifters...)
