Ride Summary:
Terrain: Flat
Distance: 26 Miles
Speed: 16 - 18 mph with gusts up to 20 as we get back in to the swing of things
Rider Level: F26 (Intermediate)
Sweep: Yes
This is a moderate-paced 26 mile ride from Sac State College along the Jed Smith Memorial Bike Trail to Sunrise Blvd. and back with hill repeats at the turn around.
The hill repeats are on Pennsylvania Ave. almost to Fair Oaks Blvd. Distance is 0.4 miles with a max grade of 10.1% I plan to do a minimum of 11 repeats on this ride. More on subsequent rides. From there we return along the original route to Sac State.
When we arrive at the Jacob Lane crossing on the bike trail (just down stream of Wm. Pond Park), I'll set my interval timer to mutually agreed upon sprint and rest periods for the remainder of the ride...3.5 miles.
This is a training ride so we will be riding a quick pace on the way out and absolute sprints on the way back.
Casual riders on mountain bikes or cruisers will see us disappear into the distance in the first five minutes so please judge your equipment and your skills appropriately.
The ride starts early so we can finish while it's still light out.
This is the eighth and final ride of a bi-weekly series. Start now and you'll be pressing 18 - 20 mph by the end of May.
As always, helmets are required.
This event starts very near the University/65th St. light rail station in the hope that you'll save gas, money and the environment by taking the train. Schedules can be seen here...
