E18 - Beginner Hill Climbing

FISH HATCHERY (map)

Selected By: Jeff Sanford

Ride Summary:

Terrain: Mild hills at 5% grade with a few short sections of 7%
Distance: approx 18 Miles, approx 800 feet of elevation gain.
Speed: 13 - 14 mph on the flat, at your own pace on the hills.
Rider Level: Beginning hill climbers and up
Sweep: Yes

It has been far too long but the wait is finally over, beginner hill climbing is back!

This ride is intended for riders who are interested in climbing hills and are looking for a pressure free environment in which to test themselves. This ride will also serve as the first of two lead in rides to the Spring Hill Series.

This is not a beginner ride. You should be comfortable riding for extended periods of time and have a positive "can-do" attitude. (See the 1pm ride here for a fun social cruise, will update with link once I have posted the 2nd ride.)

Gather at 10am, leaving at 10:15 sharp!

We'll ride up the Hazel Bridge and take the trail on the north side of Lake Natoma all the way to Beals Point. We will regroup once (not a break, just a regroup) near the turn out at Greenback Lane, then continue up to Beals Point. Once we arrive at Beals we'll head down to the picnic area on the left side of the parking lot and take a 10-15 minute break (water and restrooms are available). Once everyone has compared war stories we will head back to the Hatchery using the same route.

Please bring plenty of water and any snacks you may need. As always your helmet is required!

If you have any questions please let me know

If any other AOs want to drop by I will need some help with this ride and I'm not above begging. : )

Mica and I will be leaving the Safeway on the corner of Madison and Dewey at 9:25. Rain is a possible factor. I will cancel the ride by no later than 8am. Please update your RSVP is you are not going to attend.

This is always a great ride. Great to see all the new faces out there giving it a shot! Little longer, litte more gain next week. Hope to see everyone again, and hopefully the rain and cold will stay away. Great job by all!!

Good ride. A bit slower pace than I normally ride on the Fish Hatchery to Beale's Point, but I still went slower than I like on the hills. Good people, as always, and it was great to talk to the more serious rider about hill climbing and downhill technique.

The weather started out pretty decent, but it sure did get colder as the day went on. Good riding everyone! Ended up with 50 miles between both rides and animaling it from home.
