E18 - William B Pond Park to Sunrise and Back - in the Dark

William Pond Park (map)

Selected By: Phred

Rain will not cancel this ride. If it rains, we will laugh at it. tongue Shortly after the ride starts we will be in the dark so lights are needed.

The distance is approx 18 miles and the pace is in the 15mph range. The ride never leaves the bike trail and is a simple out and back route. Meaning you can turn around at anytime without fear of getting lost. This will be an easy spin as there are no hills.

We will meet at the drinking fountain/restroom near the bike trail at William Pond Park at 5:30 pm and be ready to go by 5:45pm... a quick break at Sunrise then head on back to William Pond Park.

As always your helmet is required and do not forget your light. It may be raining, so dress accordingly.
If you have any questions please feel free to ask. [masked]

Please note that Willy Pond park will be closed by the time we return, so do not leave your vehicle inside the park. There's plenty of street parking outside (on Arden).

We can get post ride caffeine and carbs at Bella Bru (Fair Oaks and Arden). So some hot coffee may be in order post ride. They also serve soups, salads, etc.

As a side note: I will be riding in along the UEDA trail near Elkhorn to the ARBT then up to William Pond; if anyone wants to hook up and ride a few miles more anywhere along the way. Just let me know and will be on the look out for you.

OK Rex I will look for you. I will be on a Blue Giant with full fenders. Should be at Del Paso about the same time as you.

I'll keep a lookout, but don't wait up if you don't see me. If I see Phred I'll let him know you're in the area. That'd be a trip if all three of us meet at the same spot.

Heads up! This is unconfirmed, but a guy at work told me he saw on the news yesterday bikers ambushed under Northgate bridge to steal their bikes. I didn't hear the news but he's a reliable source. Said one guy distracts a biker who stops, then others come in to ambush.

I saw the ambush on the news. Several young guys are throwing rocks, etc.. at cyclists, then they all attack. Rex and all, according to the news if is in the Northgate area on the Del Paso bike trail. The attacks happen during the day.

So it is confirmed. Thanks Lisa S. I suggest no one rides alone in that area. I mentioned this to my nephew an hour ago and he said he just saw several chp cars by that bridge today. If this happened during daylight Otis and I will pass by there Friday evening. Think we should bring Phred with us, Otis?... :-)

I ride the UEDA every day from work to the ARBT. Never seen anybody acting unruly. Or suspected I was in any danger. I did notice a police car yesterday and two county Park Ranger trucks today along the trail. Last week I recall seeing a police car near the El Camino road crossing. Where exactly are the attacks happening?

It is gonna be wet. So be ready with what ever you feel is needed. And the temps are going to be in the low 50s with some wind. This is going to be fun!!!

Hope this rain gear works for me tonight. I'm really gonna try to find Otis on the trail, if not I'm going max speed by Northgate bridge so nobody better stop there or we'll have a collision.

Perfect weather for the ride. Not too cold, no wind and of course great company. The 4-shot espresso helped at the end as well.

Great way to end a work week. Thanks for making this happen, Otis. Sorry I didn't share the fun at Bella Bru. I had 16+ miles left to make it back home. Peaceful ride back just going my pace. Lots of rabbits crossing the trail at night. Avoided a skunk. Spotted five does, two of them right next to the trail I could have reached out to touch them. They just stared at my bike light.

Great night for a ride. Not a drop of rain anywhere and temperature was comfortable. Ended the evening with laughs and good food at Bella Bru. I had the best fries I've had in ages....it was all good!
