With the weather Gods looking like they'll shine on us this weekend, let's get out and ride!
This is a good training ride before you hit Indian Hill tomorrow. With all of the rain, it should be crisp and sparkly, with that new minty fresh after-the-rains clean air. This ride is great for those trying to get experience with a little longer rides (working up to a metric or century this year?) with only a couple of very moderate hills and some very pleasant scenery around Lincoln! Suited for road bikes and hybrids with road tires/wheels. Speed is not the 'thing' on this ride - advanced beginner and intermediate training is. It's also good for the "fasties" if they want to go ripping ahead, but you'll be on your own until the rest of us catch up!
The ride is approx 38 miles in length and has approx 1400 feet of climbing in only 2 main climbs. This ride is a combination of urban streets with good bike lanes and some great back country roads that will have minimal traffic on the weekend morning.
We will gather at the Bel Air shopping center (on the corner of Stanford Ranch Rd and Sunset Blvd - 2341 Sunset Blvd, in Rocklin) near the Taco bell. Look for my gold Jeep Grand Cherokee with the bike rack on the back!! There's a Starbucks there to help get your engine going.
Route sheets will be handed out at the start. I'll try to post the route on the web later this week.
Please make sure you bring snacks, spare tubes, and of plenty water...there is an option to stop at a coffee shop in Lincoln also, so bring a few $$$s if you're so inclined to hit the caffeine part way through the ride.
As always your helmet is required.
RAIN DEFINITELY CANCELS!!
Does anyone have suggestions as to how to overcome the cold? I get so cold I can barely talk. I mumble. I have put on a few pounds and I am not anemic anymore.
Brenda...I can be warm on any ride no matter how cold it is. The answer is layers, layers, layers... 2 or 3 pairs of socks, long thick tights, a jersey, arm warmers, thick jacket, and wind breaker, a full mask hat/head cover, and thick gloves...Works for me...Lisa
Ut oh...I changed my mind and want to do this ride...Perry....knock knock...can I come out to play on your ride tomorrow????
Rain on the doppler. Any update on ride??Long way from Elk Grove to have ride cancelled.
The weather Gods are messing with our heads! It's damp on the pavement here, but not raining. I'm going to the start. If it's raining then, I'll cancel. Otherwise, I'm going to ride. Anyone that wants to reach me, my cell phone is 530-320-9665.
Perry
Absolutely beautiful rollers wrapped around gleaming bright healthy green grass, sprinkeled with a few friendly dogs, and wild life. I was lost, then found by Perry. Great leader and ride...Thanks Perry....Lisa S
This was a wonderful experience, (minor) adversity, triumph, cinnamon rolls, coffee, and some very friendly people who like to get out and ride a bit. I had never ridden in Rocklin / Lincoln and want learn more about that beautiful area. Thanks to Perry for organizing an intriguing route with the right amount of challenge.
We Bike Hiking ride poachers don't get to make our ride-rating comments, so I will join Lisa S in thanking Perry for setting up a good route. Watch for our second annual version of the Spring Ride Series in March, where we will further explore this territory. This terrain should be on every Hammerin' Wheeler's familiarity list! And for any of you who enjoyed it yesterday, Dale said that the Tour de Lincoln, which will tie all of these roads together on May 15, is now open for registration.
Adrienne, Have to work or I'd be there!!!! Rather be in SF.
