With the weather Gods looking like they'll shine on us this weekend, let's try this one again . . . !
This is a good training ride for moderate hills with some pleasant scenery! It's a slight bump up from the 'Rolling Hills Ride' Diane and Lourdes like to do. Doing this ride OFTEN will get ya ready for some moderate climbing later!!
The ride is approx 30 miles in length and has approx 2000 feet of climbing in only 2 main climbs (Indian Hill Road and Ridge Road). This ride is mostly on back country roads that will have minimal traffic on a weekend morning. The roads in Auburn have bike lanes, but beyond Auburn be ready for narrow, lightly traveled roads. If you've ridden Tour de Lincoln then you've been on much of this ride!
We will gather at the Newcastle Park n Ride which is just off the Newcastle (Indian Hill road )exit on I-80. There are actually 2 Park N Rides at this exit, we will gather in the lot on the right across from the Flyers gas station & Denny's. Look for my gray gas-efficient car with the bike rack on it!!
The first portion of the ride is a climb up Indian Hill road so if you need time to "warm up" before you climb please arrive early, but be ready to roll at 9:15. You need to be comfortable riding for 30 miles and at a pace (in the flats or rollers) of 15+- mph. The climb from Folsom to Beales should be no problem for you and taken at a pace of 6+ mph. There is one extended downhill with some choppy pavement and turns, be sure your brakes are in good order! Best suited for road bikes and hybrids with road tires/wheels. Speed is not the 'thing' on this ride - advanced beginner climbing and intermediate training is. Click here for route map If a bit more climb is desired this ride, another trip up Indian Hill, right turn on Auburn Folsom down the hill to Powerhouse which returns you to almost the park n ride lot.
Please make sure your bring snacks, spare tubes, and of plenty water...there is an option to ride up Powerhouse at the end is anyone is "game"
As always your helmet is required.
RAIN DEFINITELY CANCELS!!
Will there be route sheets? I can't seem to print any through the link provided?
Sweet ...what is the deal with the "option" ...my son will be with me and I've been working him hard at the gym and we've kicked into high gear with intervals on stationaries with the high school club the past two weeks ...so although it would normally not be an issue, not sure what condition he will be in after the "regularly scheduled" ride :-)
Javier...the option is at the end of the ride if you are feeling inclined..you can get a bit more of a hill experience by adding the Powerhouse hill
Javier, the ending option is 7 miles and ~ 900 ft of climbing.
Forecast says 50/50 on the rain. We'll see how it looks in the AM.
Adrienne, Kathy and I are going for it! We'll be at the start at 9:00. If it is raining, then it we'll call it and go find solace in pancakes and maple syrup. :-)
Glad you guys got a ride in! ...I wussed out due to impending rain, Jacob and I ended up hittin the gym doing a 1 hour spin class, 1 hour workout and 1/2 hour on rowing machine ....great workout but we definitley would rather ride :-|
Oh, and I forgot to mention; the climb up Ridge is better when lunch at the Newcastle Deli's waiting at the end. :)
Great ride, pretty scenery, kind people. and not much rain. Thanks Adrienne and Perry for doing the ride...
Trying this again...weather permitting :-)
