William Land Park (map)

Interested in being a part of an actual bike race without racing?

The Sacramento Golden Wheelmen is sponsoring the Land Park Criterium and they need volunteers to help out in registration, course marshaling, booths, etc. The criterium features races from masters to kids and is a sanctioned event under USA Cyling Org.

Shifts available are:

8-10
10-12
12-3
3-5

Land Park Criterium Race Details

Tripp Goldsberry, president of the Sacramento Golden Wheelmen, needs the names of the volunteers 2 weeks prior to the event so please RSVP before the deadline. I will be submitting the names to Tripp.

RSVP is a social commitment. This is a serious race event so please be sure that you can commit prior to signing up.

Update - 3/18/2010

Here's the list of times and assignments:

Lourdes Ibarra (me) – 8-10 (Marshall 1)
Michael Nevin – 3-5 (Marshall 6) (tentative as I requested a time change for you, Mike.)
Megan H – 8-10 (Marshall 4)
Colleen 3-5 (Marshall 6)
Mattie Steen 8-10 (Marshall 6)
Paula Presba – 8-10 (Marhshall 7)
Marshon 12-3 (Marshall 7)

I have uploaded the criterium map in our files section. You can also click on the link below.

When you get to the course, you need to go directly to your station and report to the SGW member who is going to be there who will brief you with your duties as a marshall.
As marshall, you need to ensure course safety by keeping pedestrians, joggers, golfers from walking into the road before the pack is about to ride by.

The location is in the middle of land park, in the "oval" around part of the golf course. Look at this google pedometer route to see the area where the start/finish is set up. Registration and pretty much everyone else are in this general area:

The check in/orientation piece seemed to be missing. The event was fun though, and pretty exciting. I got to play trauma nurse (yes, I really am though :) to one of the cyclists who blew a tire at about 30mph..ouch enjoyed talking to Mike at Station #6, as well as the spectators who showed up on bikes to chat.

I had the 12-3 shift and due to scheduling needs, spent my time at a different location. I was great.
