Another climb in preparation for the Death Ride. It represents a challenge, but is still attainable for someone who isn't used to climbing. This will be a hard climb and there is no food or water along the route so bring whatever you need with you. We meet at the Power Inn Rd. Park & Ride, then carpool to the Green Valley Shopping Center in Danville. Please compensate drivers for fuel. $5.00 per hour of driving time is fair.
Distance: 28 miles (out and back, 14 miles each way)
Terrain: Urban & Country Roads
Elevation Gained: 3513 ft climbing (Max. 15% grade)
Skill Level: Strong Climbing Riders
Speed: 6-12 mph on hill (this one is just hill, nothing else) / 30+ on descents
Sweep: No, but we'll regroup at the turn-around.
Pace: As fast as possible, which is not likely to be very fast.
You can see the route and print your own cue sheet here...
I would offer to stop for beers afterward, but I practice Alcohol Free January. Find out more about that here...

As always, helmets are required.
This event starts at the light rail station in the hope that you'll save gas, money and the environment by taking the train. The train costs $2.50 (cheaper than you can drive) and schedules can be seen here...

Just make sure your train says "Folsom" or "Sunrise" on it.

I'm impressed with Marsh's idea for an alcohol-free January. It's a Yang to the Yin of the holiday excesses. So, I'm bringing a case of Martinelli's Sparkling Apple Cider for us to enjoy.
If anyone else is coming from midtown/downtown Sacramento and interested in meeting up on the way, I'll be biking up Folsom to the P&R meetup.
It's just too cold for me to want to climb Diablo this time of year, not to mention the possibility of snow at the upper elevations. The descent will be sketchy. I love the climb, it's relentless, and the headwall is a beast. Have fun!
