This Metric Century is one of the first local events of the year. Held in the hills surrounding the reservoirs near Ione, it almost always sells out early. There is a 100k option as well as a 50k option. Registration is done ONLINE ONLY, starting on January 4th. You can read all about it on the Bike Hikers website.
An RSVP for this event is only a way of telling other HW riders who will be there if you want to make arrangements to ride together. You must register at the via links on the Bike Hikers site above.
Last year the Wheelers were out in force, and judging by the positive comments, most will be back again. While the weather was on the "cool" side early in the morning, it was a spectacular day. Check out the comments and photos here.
The meetup point is Howard Park. There's a building there for registration and lunch afterwards. Live band/party/dancing is just to the side of the building. It's pretty hard to miss people either inside or outside of the building.
The route below is official, although it doesn't show the turnoffs for rest stops 1 and 2, which are only 100 feet or so. The spur in Valley Springs is the route up to Rest Stop 3. Enjoy!
Enjoy...they say it is supposed to stop raining for you :-)
Marsh ...contact Dave Abbott @ BHpardeechair@bikehikers.com , he said he would love to hear your suggestions on how to make it better next year.
Marsh. I agree about the food. I'll pass the message along to Dan King who is this years President.
Roger that Lourdes... in this day of $70+ rides... $30 or $40 for great stops, good sag, excellent signage, volunteers that smile and are having as good a time as you... I'll take the Hikers food any day as it comes with a great ride... I'd miss the music as I unwind as it's a part of the experience for me now... Paid twice as much for wildflower last year, never saw a SAG, signs were just ok, stops were good and well stocked, but end meal was so so and woefully short on quantity...
First time for me. Great route, nice scenery, enough climb to make it interesting. But, boy was it COLD! That was the main reason I didn't enjoy the ride. One of my riding partners, (also his first Pardee ride) said that it would be a great ride in May & I agree. Early April is too iffy, weather-wise in NorCal. Rest stops were great, volunteers were awesome. Saw lots of SAG. Post-ride meal was disappointing. Didn't see the band, as my friends wanted to leave but I thought they sounded good.
A challenging ride for me, which is what I was expected and hoping for. The food was good, the band (as always) played well, and the route itself was marked well. My thanks to the volunteers and organizers who spent so much time and effort to make things run smoothly.
The pasta dinner was unencumbered by heavy sauces or meats and the salad had PLENTY of dressing on it. I couldn't eat it all. The beer must have been really fantastic because they ran out just 20 minutes after we rolled in. And the band...unbelievable! We were astonished by the magnitude of the PARTY!
So Marsh...which organized rides *would* get your seal of approval? Just wondering, since this one didn't.
First off, this RIDE gets my seal of approval. This PARTY is what failed.
Cycle for Sight in 2 weeks. $50 for an equivalent ride experience with equally fantastic scenery, great rest stops & SAG and a party at the end that is easily 20 times the size (and quality) of "Party" Pardee with a much better band and unlimited wine & beer tasting and a t-shirt and commemorative glass included in the price.
I started with two friends 20 minutes to 8am and finished the ride at 12 noon. The lunch was just starting to rev up (mostly short course riders) and the band had not even started to warm up. I have learned on this type of ride to finish as early as possible to be able to enjoy the festivities at the end if that's what you are going for. My friends and I just go to ride new routes without worry about the next water stop. We had a quick lunch and blew out of there to get home by 1:30. Good route.
Anybody ride this for time? Still amazed by Steve Ward's 3:10 in '08
I'm chiming in late. I started the 100K at 8:00 and finished at 12:09. Ride time was a little under four hours and I saw none of you. It was my first one and my major complaint is that it is early in the season and was too cold to wait around and socialize. The hills hurt but I survived. I was impressed by the turnout from Team Revolution. I wish we could have over 100 riders represent. (Steve I skipped the Lifesaver but thank your wife for me).

What time are most of ya'll gonna be there? I figure Jacob and I will get there around 7:30am so we can start riding by about 8am.
