Tour de Cure (Various rides)

Roseville HP (map)

Selected By: Tom

Tour de Cure is a fundraising ride for the American Diabetes Association. To participate each rider should go to the ADA website:
ADA - Tour de Cure
Register for one of four rides:

  • 100 mile [Century] Rating - B100
  • 100 kilometer [Metric Century] - Rating B65
  • 50 kilometer - Rating D32
  • 10 miles - Rating E10

You have the option to join a team. I'm riding on the "Sutter Health" team. It would be great if you would join also.

Registration is $15 and you are requested to raise at least $150. I've found that this is quite easy to do. Just email friends and family and let them know about the ADA cause.

All rides are at your own pace. There will be SAG vehicles patrolling the routes.

I would strongly recommend to those doing the centuries to do some training before the ride.

I will be posting a few training rides that will be used by other Tour de Cure riders.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

Yeah, that'd be great! I was surprised when I saw that there wasn't one already. I bet we could get a bigger crowd together if we make a team.

Team Hammering Wheels! That sounds like a great idea! Let me know if you want to register the team officially on the website. I can talk to Mark who organizes the event.

Tom, I would to do a Hammerin' Wheels Team. Is that something I can do or something we need Mark to do?

    Hey Mica,
I think that Mark will have to do it since everyone has already signed up. I think all you will have to do is give Mark a list of the HW members that want to be on the team. If you put the list together, I think that he can put the team together. Let me know if you want me to talk to him.

What times are people leaving for the 100 miles? Maybe we can ride together. I plan on a fairly fast pace.

I plan on being there early and starting on the course at 7:30 when the route opens. However if there is a group of people going then I am flexible. I do not know what the Sutter team (the one I'm on) has planned for though.

Sounds good. I live literally less than 3 miles away from Roseville HP, so I'll be riding in. Let me know.

Mica, et al: I'll be there at 7:30, too. I'm flexible on the pace as long as we get a few good gusts in there.

I am not sure where to meet, as I've never been to the Roseville HP facility. Either way, look for me in my Red/White Sutter Health jersey. I have a white/black Tarmac.

Registration opens at 6 am and course is open @ 6:30 am. I would personally like to start early to beat the bike traffic on the route and the crowds at rest stops. Plus, I'm in for another 100 the next day so I want to get done early. What do you guys think of 6:30 am?

Sure, that works for me. The times I quoted earlier were wrong - I was staring at the 100K on the sheet instead of the 100 mile haha. Will be on the lookout for that green LeMonde of yours, Mica :)

How about we meet at 6am at the registration booth? I'll be there at six to turn in my paperwork. I'll be on my neon green and black cannondale. 6:30 start?

Hey everyone. New to the club and this is going to be my first organized ride. I am doing the 100k. I signed on with the sutter health team. Is anyone from the club doing the 100K?

    Hello,
Are there any women or slower riders going for 100 miles? I am not sure I can catch up with Mica all the way. :=) Since this is my first 100-mile riding, I am planning to finish it in 8 hours or so; starting at 6:30a.m. Would anyone like to join me?

Lourdes, that sounds good. Do we actually go into the HP parking lot with our cars or what? I drove out there last weekend as I didn't know where it was located. I'm in Elk Grove. This is all new to me.

Great day for a ride! Thanks to all that came out for the ride; it is truely appreciated. I know the 100 mile had some poor marking; this will be addressed next year. This year the course was marked on the Sunday before the event. With the rain on Tuesday and Wednesday, many of the markers were in poor condition or gone completely. We were able to remark the 50K and the 100K; but not all the 100mile. Next year we will be marking the entire course the Friday before the event to prevent this situation in the future. Please send any feed back that you may have to me. I'm on the planning committee and will relay all comments to the group. Again, thanks for coming out and I hope all had a great time!

This was a great ride and was my first 100-mile. However, I was lost twice and ended up riding for 110.56miles. Fortunately I met a few good bike people in Auburn and they led me back to the right course. I was also lost when I came back. Poor me, I could not find the sign and did not read the cue sheet right. Next time, I will try to ride with someone in similar riding level. Totally I had a great time along the way and met some new friends. I am so proud of myself - I was riding for a good cause and I made it!

It went very well after the first rest stop where I got to eat and stretch. I like how almost the whole route was made up of bits and pieces of HW rides. It was confirmed for me by one ADA event staff member that someone had been taking down the return route signs, even after SAG kept putting them back up! Thankfully Mica has great reading and left/right orientation skills so we made it back safe...

Good ride and gracious people. Return routes should have been better marked- put extra mileage in as a result.

Great route. Most of it familiar as we HW'ers frequent these areas quite often, but did get in some new roads which were challenging. Rest stops were well stocked and didn't have to wait for anything, even the bathroom! The only two downsides was the long wait to check in even after getting there right when it opened (25 minutes) and course marking could have been more visable (some were missing). Missed a turn and ended up doing an extra 5 hilly miles through Auburn giving me 107 for the day, 5200 ft of climbing, 17.3 mph average, and 6:10 ride time. Great to paceline with Paul, Derek and Alex on the flats. Post ride meal was good with a giant burrito from Chipotle. Was able to even get seconds for the road! Great to see so many HWers on this ride.

I did 50k (34.74 miles) in 2h17m Avg 15.2 mph What a great ride. I enjoyed it very much. I did better than I thought I would.

There was plenty of food/drink at the rest stops. The sign markers were easily visible, for the most part. Got lost twice, but that was due to my own fault of not paying attention. While it was not a big deal, I did not get any raffle tickets upon checking in, and thus lucked out when it came to winning anything. I know it's a minor quibble, oh well. Still raised money for a good cause.
