After we are all done, lets go get some lunch at Ikedas who a friend recommended. They are supposed to have great pies and burgers among other things. Check out the link to see some of what they got! So bring some $$ if you are joining us for lunch.
A simple out and back from Auburn to Foresthill! It's 32 miles round trip and total climb for the ride is about 2800 feet. A very scenic ride as the road runs across the top of the Foresthill Divide. This will be a good training ride to help keep you in climbing shape or help you get you there! Most climbs on this ride are under a mile and between 4-6% grade... there are two climbs however, that are close to two miles long, start out at 5-6% and have portions at 8-9+% toward the end... leg burners to be sure!
This ride is not for beginners. A very strong beginner with hill climbing experience will be ok, but the climb from Folsom to Beals should not be any problem and climbs like Indian Hill are very doable for you! This ride is very similiar to Lourdes' Granite Bay to Indian Hill Slow Poke's Edition ride, only a little more difficult. The major exception is you will climb more in a shorter distance but the return trip is still mostly down hill. On this ride, speed is not as important as getting to the top! A "Can Do" attitude is a major plus! The ride will be sweept so if you attend you will not be holding anyone up, this is a go at your pace type of ride. You can also turn around when ever you wish.
The bike lanes on Foresthill Road are very wide but the traffic just blazes along on this road which can be unnerving if not used to that. Best suited for road bikes, a hybrid with road wheels and tires should be fine if you're used to climbing with one. Check your equipment, there are lots of downhills and the bike lanes tend to be littered with bark from the logging trucks, so good brakes and tires are a must!
We're starting late so we don't freeze, but bring plenty of water and a snack are there is nothing available along the way.
Helmets are required as always.
As always please let me know if you have any questions.
Jeff, I'm sure I would be the one trying to keep you in my sights this time.
Chris, since you beat me to the Flower Farm, I still owe you from helping me move! So I'll be buying your lunch.
Thanks Mica, sounds great!
Anyone interested in riding to the later start from the Roseville area?
Lourdes, great point on the glass as I remember from last time with 2 flats. I'll second the call for extra tubes!
Ikeda's is a foothills legend! Lunch should be awesome. :)
Weather looks to be ok as it will be nice an sunny. Weather.com has it at 50 degrees at 10 am, 54 degrees by 11 am, and 57 degrees by 12 pm. Winds look to be very light (2 mph) and variable.
Mica, thanks for putting this ride together. Perfect weather for a ride! Looking forward to seeing all of you again in the near future.
RE: staggered start times. Pick your own handicap to get there first?
Roy, we staggered start times so we get to Forest Hill around the same time and not have a super long break.
For now, I will be departing with the later starting group to sweep and will sweep on the way back when we all leave Worton's together.
