F20 Fish Hatchery to Jackson Hwy via South Canal (In Da Dark!)

FISH HATCHERY (map)

Selected By: Jeff Sanford

Ride Summary:

Terrain: Flat with a few optional steep short hills
Distance: approx 19-20 Miles
Speed: 16 - 20+ mph
Rider Level: Intermediate riders and up.
Sweep: No
Lights are REQUIRED for this ride!!

This bi-weekly ride will be a fast paced ride designed to build endurance, speed, and practice pacelines. We'll meet at 4:45 and leave at 5pm or before if all the Yes RSVPs are present. Please update your RSVP if you cannot make the event. We'll ride .25 miles to the entrance of the South Canal and head west. There are 2 road crossings where we need to exercise caution, Sunrise and Whiterock. Once the coast is clear we'll continue on the trail down to Jackson Hwy. We'll take a short break, then head back to the Hatchery. We should be back to the hatchery by no later than 6:30.

Do not be discouraged if you get dropped on this ride. The break does not start until the last rider arrives at the break point. The idea is to push yourself but please exercise caution, we don't need anyone having any issues because they pushed themselves too hard. PLEASE KNOW YOUR LIMITS!

Here is a link that give some good pointers on dos and don't while in a paceline.Paceline etiquette

A light rain will not cancel but a heavy rain will. I will cancel by no later than 2pm if it becomes an issue.

Please bring plenty of water and as always your helmet is required.

If you have any questions please let me know

This ride can be summed up in 2 words: Bad Fast!!! Little longer ride and a much faster pace. I averaged 21.1 mph for 21.33 miles and still got dropped. These night rides are AWESOME!!!

I must say, an impressive sight. Paceline in the dark when all cars and street lights on main roads become just a landscape at a distance. Before it got too dark to see my speed we were at 22-23mph but each time a new lead guy breaks headwind speed increased a notch. Once I got dropped it was like watching a runaway train w/ flickering lights pushing its way to the next destination. I'm sure if I could see the lead guy there'd be smoke chooting of his ears.

Thank for the push from everyone, It is great to get out and ride at 24 mph to get some training even if I can only hang for 7 of the 20 miles. Doing rides like this push me to keep my pace up and work harder.
