Georgetown Loop - B61

Raleys - Blue Ravine (map)

Selected By: A former member

Ride Grade: B61
Distance: 61 miles, Total climb: 5800ft (According to Bikely)
Terrain: Fairly long climb to Georgetown, about 9-10%.
Ability: Intermediate+
Speed: 17 on flats, less on hills. Ride at your own climbing pace.
Sweep: No, but regroup at designated points on cue sheet.
Bring some $$ for food and refreshments along the way.

Join us for a new ride with some great views and challenging hills, the Folsom/Georgetown/Cool loop! Notice that it is NOT an easy ride, being very close to the recent Iowa Hill Loop ride in length and altitude gained. So we are going to strongly encourage a slow but steady pace. This will be 2/3 the length of Foxy's, but with 1.6 times as much climbing. Our main goal is to prove the viability and enjoyability of the route. With that said, now the details:

Meet at 8:30 in the parking lot next to the Raley's Aisle 1 gas station at 25025 Blue Ravine Road.

We'll head up Green Valley, Deer Valley then on to Lotus Rd which will take us to 49. From there we'll take Marshall Rd. to Georgetown and Georgetown Rd to Cool, then back down 49 to Salmon Falls Rd and Green Valley to complete the trip. The majority of climbing will be done on Marshall Rd, 3 miles of solid 9% to climb. It's a long, steady climb of about 30-40 minutes - some hill legs are required. There are several water stops and we'll take breaks as desired. We can stop for a bite to eat in Cool as well.

CUE SHEET HERE

Here is a Bikely map of route..

Prospector Rd. will be an option for those who choose to tackle it. It replaces the 3 miles of 9% on Marshall Rd. with about 2.8 miles of 10% - 14%, no flat spots all the way to the end.

Please bring extra tubes, 2 water bottles, snacks are encouraged and a helmet is required and don't forget to bring $$ if you plan to join us for lunch.

Please contact me if you have any questions!

Rain will cancel this ride!!

This route is very much like the Folsom Metric Century for the Cyclebration. It was a great ride. We went up the old Marshall Grade (Packer Grade??) though, I hope the new one less steep.

I drove the route today, the bonus is that Lotus road is freshly paved!! Marshall Rd will be fun, 3 miles of solid 9% grinding. We'll should have the break/lunch spot be at Wortons market in Georgetown, great deli.

Thanks again to Steve for an excellent co-lead. Apologies to those who received an unfriendly reception at the Rescue Fire station, we received incorrect info on it!

Thanks Chris and Steve for leading the ride! I always love discovering new cycling territory! I will keep this route in mind ... what's it like in the winter (when it's snowing in Tahoe)?

Had another great day on the bike thanks to a great organized ride. The lunch stop was great! Nice people there and food was good. Thanks again Chris and Steve for working it out so all of us could get out there.

Hard to ask for a better day and a better route than this... really was just about perfect. And is it just me, or was October one heck of a good month for HW rides? Amazing. Terrific org/planning, and many thanks to Chris and Steve.

A perfect Fall day. A perfect group of cyclists, some brand new to the club, some almost new, some veterans, and one guest. Some variability in riding ability, but all with a great attitude, and in spite of around 5800' of climbing over the 61 mile route, we had a GREAT time. 3 significant climbs:Green/Deer Valley, Lotus Rd, and Marshall Road, especially the first 3 miles. And 3 great downhills: Lotus Rd, Hwy 193 out of Georgetown, and Salmon Falls Rd. Slow and steady, it works every time.

This is a great day ride... up up up and then down down down. Nice deli in the middle to gorge on. Steep climbs, grinding climbs and rolling climbs, works you every way and some great brake free down hills. I like it!

It was a PERFECT riding day. The route was challenging - I wouldn't want to attempt Marshall in the heat of summer! I enjoyed talking with our new members who traveled to join us and hope to see them on future rides. As always, the group is fun and encouraging. Thank you Chris and Steve for the flat tire assistance!

Although I ended up hanging with the Cycle Folsom group most of the day, it was good to meet a few members of Hammerin' Wheels, and I look forward to meet more in future meetups!

I only need one word to describe this route - EXCELLENT. No Wait…maybe Bill & Ted had it right. Two words ARE needed to describe this route - Most EXCELLENT. As a matter of fact, I enjoyed this route so much, as soon as I got home, I lined up two friends to join me on this same route next weekend! Great riding with everyone. You guys kicked butt today.
