C17 Fish Hatchery to Iron Point hill

FISH HATCHERY (map)

Selected By: Jeff Sanford

Ride Summary:

Terrain: Mostly flat to gentle rise with one long steep climb up Iron Point Road (At Costco)
Distance: approx 17 Miles
Speed: 16 - 20+ mph in the flat
Rider Level: Intermediate riders and up.
Sweep: No

This bi-weekly ride will be a fast paced ride designed to build endurance and speed. We'll meet at 4:45 and leave at 5pm or before if all the Yes RSVPs are present. Please update your RSVP if you cannot make the event. We'll ride .25 miles to the CSUS Aquatic center and take the bike trail over to Iron Point Road at the Folsom Outlets. We will take Iron Point all the way to East Bidwell and then climb the hill near Costco. From there we will meander our way through the neighborhood and do a little more climbing. Once we take a quick break (and by short I mean make sure everyone is there and they are still alive) we will snake our may back down the hill and return the the Hatchery via Iron Point Road. We are rapidly losing daylight but we should be back to the hatchery by no later than 6:30.

Do not be discouraged if you get dropped on this ride. PLEASE KNOW YOUR LIMITS!

Please bring plenty of water (there are no services at our rest point, there are stores along the route but we are not stopping) and as always your helmet is required.

If you have any questions please let me know

I might be out of town Tuesday. I'll let you know tomorrow if I'm not going to make the ride.

Jeff, maybe it was easier this week without your 40lb backpack!

40!?! I noramlly put 150 lbs in it. Next week I'll drop it down to 100 lbs to see if it makes a difference.

Holy Teledo!!! Faster and faster every week! Iron Point was not so bad this week. I was still toward the back but I could still see some of the front runners. Minor victory for me. : ) Great to meet all the new folks who continue to improve this ride. Next week is Beals and light are recommended. We just beat the sunset tonight but next week will be a tall order!! This group is awesome, thanks everyone!

Similar to what Rob said: 'sometimes ya hafta drag yer sorry tired butt out to the ride' - but end up having a good ride and great fun. Without the group ride on the calendar, I might not have otherwise done a ride. THANKS to the organizers, those "bullets" sprinting off the front egging us on (and you know who you are), and all those wheels to draft off on the return trip! BTW, who else thinks Javier needs to do a longer "warm-up" BEFORE the ride (isn't that a 30 mile round trip Hazel to Guy West and back)?

Just when you think you're getting better, the same group shows you you're still a beginner. Running after this bunch I really felt my brakes were on the whole time. How much faster can you guys go?

Great ride, great meeting a new cycling group. I have now found another option for my Tuesday Night rides, I usually ride with the Bike Hikers on Tuesday nights, but depending on the month the start is sometimes a lot farther away than I really want to drive, plus I was home by 7pm (a bonus with the wife :-) ). With the start location where it was and having finished up a project earlier than I anticipated I was able to slip away early from the office and ride to Guy West bridge & back before the ride start ...was a perfect riding day to say the least :-)

Great, if blistering, ride! Met some great guys that I hadn't ridden with before, and definitely enjoyed trying to keep up! I tell ya, there are some Tuesdays when I have to drag my butt to the Hatchery for this ride, but I always end up having a blast! And finally, I made the top of IP in the Big Ring! Wootzers! :D

Now THAT was a good workout! There is no way to disguise your conditioning inadequacies being pushed by this crowd on that hill. We should probably all follow Rob's example and do it at least 3-6 times a week. And we almost finished before sundown.
