I did this ride w/ Steve Cimini and the Bike Hikers this past Fathers Day. I've been itching to do it again ever since, so here it is. Plus it's a great warm-up to the Foxy Fall Century w/ more climbing.
We will meet at the Park & Ride lot in Winters on the corner of Railroad Ave and Main. Take Hwy 128 (Covell Blvd) from Davis; in Winters, turn left at Railroad Ave. We will DEPART by 8:30 am sharp! Please arrive no later than 8:15 am so we can leave on time.

Here is a link to the cue sheet in PDF format.
Elevation gain is about 4300' unless you add the optional out-and-back on Mix Canyon. Except for Cantelow and Mix Canyon most of the climbing is completed in the first 26 miles.
This scenic route cruises up Hwys 128 and 121, visiting such sites as Monticello Dam, Cardiac Hill, Moskowite Corner, Wooden Valley, Gordon Valley and Mankas Corner. We return through Fairfield, Pleasants Valley, Cantelow, and the English Hills area to Winters.
There will be regrouping points for fluids, snacks, and lunch that I will put on the cue sheet. We will stop in Fairfield for lunch.
Things that are required...Helmet, 2 water bottles or camel back, snacks, $$$ for lunch/fluids, sunscreen, and spare tube/patch kit. You must be comfortable riding on rural roads w/ traffic.
If it lookes to be super hot, I will push back the time. A steady rain will cancel this event.
E-mail me if you have any questions...
An RSVP is a Social Commitment. Your Hosts and Organizers go to great lengths and often personal expense to make these events fun and enjoyable for you. If you are unable to show up, please update your RSVP a minimum of 2 hours before the start time of the event.
Foxy Fall will feel like a piece of cake after us doing Iowa Hill Callenge and this one the weeks prior.
Just adding... ;) I'm a bit of a maybe here. With Iowa Hill the week before and Foxy the week after, I'm not sure where my recovery point is. Hope to have an idea after Iowa Hill.
I think I'm planning to get there early for b'fast at Steady Eddy's or the other local. Anyone else interested?
Joel, I will be out late Friday to see a band so I'll be sleeping in as long as I can!
Gonna try and get the digital copy of the cue sheet up tomorrow or Wednesday.
Mica, There's a mess of construction going on near Fairfield/I-80 at Texas/N. Texas. The ride crosses over there. IMO, it would be a good idea to check on that with CalTrans or whoever the agency is that oversees it. We might need to reroute the ride to avoid it.
Cue sheet is up in the files section and there is a link above in the description.
Mica, I've done and got myself sick. Some sort of head cold/sore throat/etc. Hoping it clears up. If not, I won't be there. Decision will be made Sat. morning. So you may not get the RSVP change before you go. If I'm not there, don't wait.
If we run into construction issues at W. Travis/I80, I have an alternate route I will let everyone know about to bypass any closures.
Thanks for folding in the wait list Mica. See you Sat.
I've decided to bail. This flu has me down. The fever is gone, but the head congestion and weakness is still with me. Not a good idea to ride tomorrow if I want to be well enough for Foxy's.
Hey Mica
Can you squeeze one more in. Cheryl is kidnapping me and my bike so I have no choice but to be there. She's demanding $5 for ransom. So I have no choice but to shut up and pay.
Rick
Where did everyone go post ride? I saw vehicles there when I got in, but could find anyone. But Steady Eddie's hit the spot with some ice cold coffee and good company with a few of the ladies.
Anyone get elevation figures for the ride? I think a few people had around 3,600 ft on their Garmin.
A little info on Mix Canyon...so the first 2 miles aren't so bad. There are a few short and STEEP sections (~16-20%). However, there are many points that level off (especially after the steep parts) to level and even some DOWNHILL thrown in to give you some relief and a chance to catch your breath. Nice thing is there are mile markers almost every tenth of a mile so you know exactly where you are at. Maybe next time I'll add another mile.
We stopped a local and asked where cold BEER could be had Mica. Two choices, Irish Pub (toward the way we rode back), and JJs (toward the way we left). About 7 of us went for a cold one and talked about how much fun we all had! Sorry we missed you guys!
Mmmm...cold beer! JJ's was the ONE place I didn't check, lol. Glad you all talked about how much fun you had and not how bad of a time you had or how much the ride leader sucked!
As Rob said, we went for the beer!! We looked for you when we left, but didn't see you anywhere. Thanks again for organizing a GREAT ride Mica.
Echoing other notes, Mica. Great job bro. Looking forward to going on another ride with you already!
I saw that county sheriff Rick's talking about. He sped by me with ample space as on that stretch there were no other cars. About 6 to 8 hundred feet in front was Rick & Cheryl and watching that sheriff's car approach them confused the heck out of me. I remember watching the approach and thinking to myself, they must have hired a sick teenage deputy.
As you can tell from everyone's comments, this was a fantastic and challenging ride with a great group of people. Thanks for coordinting it Mica.
Sounds good Mica. I'm still looking at my overall training schedule for the next 5 weeks, Iowa Hill ride, Foxy's Fall. Seems like this is a good fit.
