C100/E62/F31 Foxy’s Fall Century

Its that time again! Foxy's is here!

The Davis Bike Club puts on this event every year and it always fills up.

As promised the 100 mile option is sold out, if you want to ride you will need to purchase one from another ride who is not able to use their registration. You can check cragislist and Ebay or post a note in the Swap Meet forum on the site. As a note there may still be spots open for the 62 and 31 mile options.

There are 100, 62, & 31 mile events all of which are fully supported.

Course opens at 7am so arrive at 6:30 to check in and get ready. I am rolling as close to 7 am as possible. This event is not a typical group ride. Everyone is on their own, this is more to see if there is anyone you want to carpool or bike along side. I plan on riding at a faster pace so I will not be sweeping.

Click here to register and get more information about this ride.

    Sorta? :D

I did that Sac around Folsom with Savorn which I made 100 miles. But I've yet to ride in an 'official' Century event.

Haven't signed up for the 9/19 ALS ride yet, so Foxy's Fall could be my 1st!

To those that have rode foxy's before does the hills start or end at the damn hill?

For the most part, the climbing doesn't start until after lunch, there is some but not much. There is minimal climbing after the dam. So the bulk of the climbing is from Lunch to the Dam.

They say this is a good 'beginner' Century then they throw in 'Cardiac Hill'. Somehow the two don't seem to go together.

Cardiac Hill is overrated in my opinion. Its not a death inducing climb as everyone makes it out to be. Don't get me wrong its no walk in the park but don't buy into the hype. From the stories I heard it was an A++ climb, the reality is its a solid C climb. Just take your time and climb at your own pace and it will be over before you know it.

I agree with Jeff on the Cardiac Hill. If you can do the Forest Hill route, you can do Cardiac Hill.

10 day forecast is out tomorrow! ATM Friday is 77/51 partly cloudy, on a warming trend from Tuesday showers. Even our best models are hard pressed 10 days out, but it's looking good right now! :D

:D! 10/17, Davis... Partly Coudy, 78/49, warming from two days sunshine after Tue/Wed showers. Could be just about a perfect weather day!

What is all this talk about Cardiac Hill? The full century course goes DOWN Cardiac Hill, not up. Of course you have to get to the top in order to go down, but it will be the highlight of your ride.

3 day outlook now heavy rain for Tuesday, but weekend still about the same, 77/51, Mostly Cloudy. Sunny Thur/Fri, so hopefully all the moisture will be dried up holding humidity down.

    Is everyone just excited! :D

I can't go now - I got sick last week and missed a whole week of workouts, so now I have to do a long run on Saturday instead. Are we allowed to sell/transfer the tickets? If so, anyone need mine? I'm registered for the full century.

The 2nd one is Cardiac. The fist one right after lunch hit 17% at one point but Cardiac is longer but a constant 7%, even if it is the backside. Honestly, I don't see much difference between the 2 sides.

Great event this year. I lost track of the HW group at about the third light out of town. A few of us jumped into a fast peloton early on and blazed to the first stop in 1:07 according to my Garmin. The first stop was virtually empty when we arrived. Most of us kept up with the peloton all the way to the lunch stop around mile 61. Arriving in less than 3 hours. My ride time was 5:35. I arrived back at the start at 1:35pm. Congrats to all first time century finishers.

Wow! Grats Phil & Warren! Awesome times! I'd thought about trying to stay with you guys at the beginning, but ended up starting at the end of the group and got stuck at the 1st light. Never saw you two after that point! LOL! Would have been fun to try and keep up! There's always next year!
Congrats to you Mike! Very nice job. You are an inspiration to me, I'm always happy to see you out taking on the rides with a sweat, a constant smile, and total commitment! Keep up the awesome work!

Note to Jeffery B. Whoa dude that's a lot of flats. It looks like you took one for the HW Team, sparing the rest of us from getting any flats, Thanks Mac

I had a blast pushing myself to new limits. I had a goal of 6 hour and 30 minutes and managed to finish in under 6 hours. It was rought trying to hang with the rest of the crew, espically when the hills arrived. I could hang with them for a while in the flat but quickly lost sight of them after lunch. Proof positive I need to get rid of this spare tire! The weather and company was perfect! At any rate I will echo the sentiment of others about the porta potties and the single lunch line being a pain. Denise and I agreed that the lack of Oreos at the last stop was the worst! Good thing there was Pepsi! LOL! Several positives: Plenty of food & water, the course was well marked and SAG was very visible unlike years past. I'll be back next year trying to shave a little more time off this ride. A huge congrats to everyone who completed thier first century or obtained a personal goal on this ride!

Well another 106 miles in the books for the year. Had a great start with my front tire flat when I unloaded my bike. At mile 21 the front tire pickup a rock, took out 4 thorns and the rock, replaced the tube and with in 50 yards the tire went flat again. Put in my last tube I had on me, made it to the first rest stop, bought a new tube, and had no problems the rest of the day. Stats 105.8 mile - 14.8 average speed - total time 7 hours 4 minutes

Had a great time. Two most memorable moments: Riding in an insanely fast group for the first 40 - 60 miles. Realizing that keeping up with the fast group in the beginning led to pain in the hills. Warren and I killing ourselves chasing down a group after the final rest-stop that pulled us to the finish.

This was a great ride! Well supported (plenty of food!), great scenery, and a big group of riders representing the Hammerin Wheels! Thanks to Jeff for taking and posting the pictures.

We couldn't have asked for a more perfect weathr - thankful that we didn't have wind to contend with. My legs cramped up a bit on the hills on the way back, but all-in-all a very good day of riding.

What a ride. Thanks Greg,Jamie, Lourdes and Richard for the company on the ride till I fell back around mile 70. Thanks Mike(Theresa's Plus) for the company on and off the the last 25 miles. 106 miles 8 Hours not too bad. Nice to see so many differant hammerin wheelers out there yesterday

I was very impressed with all the volunteers that were there to direct us and prepare refreshments! it was tough completing 106 miles, but well worth it! A fine event! :)

On a ride as well attended as this one, you get to see a lot of the HW crowd at the start, and then see segments of that group throughout your ride. Today our subgroup consisted of Jeff S, Chris D, Shawn , Denise, Rob, and the guy they call (behind his back) "Mad Dog" . In spite of the pledge of some to just relax and enjoy the ride, we hammered it pretty well, finishing in under 6 hours. Thank goodness for pacelines heading back to the barn. Now if they could only do something about the road surface on miles 99 to 102, this would be a most pleasurable outing. As it was, it gave us something to bitch about, but we all felt good about it. Good job, group! Arf! Arf!

Excellent ride. 106 miles, no flats and every where you looked there were more and more HW riders…how cool is that!!! What a GREAT turn out. I know there were a lot of first time Century riders (I rode with one), hats off to all of you, you all did a GREAT job! BTW, the ride was well supported with one exception; the sandwich line for the 100 mile century was a joke :-( I’ve been riding centuries & double centuries since 1981 and rarely have I seen a lunch line this poorly executed. That said, I had a ton of fun and look forward to the next Club Century. But right now, it’s Margaritaville time with a few friends.

I finally got to meet Lourdes :). I didn't get there until 7:30am so missed the chance to meet everyone before the race but I did meet a couple of folks on the road. The route was great and really well marked but I do have to say the rest stops with its long lines for the restroom and lunch was poorly organized. I probably won't do it again next year unless they get more porta-potties. On a more positive note, this was the best time for a century for me this year. I was able to hit my overall time of about 7 hours total including breaks.

I had a good time. Also cut out about 10 of the "junk miles" before Fairfield. So I didn't do quite a full century. But that's ok, those flat miles are borrrrrinnnnng. That first hill after lunch was the hardest, Cardiac is a piece of cake. Good to see so many HW's out there!
