I haven't ridden Cantelow in a year or so. It's time to visit it again. Rain cancels. Showers and I'm still riding.
C-/B+
~50 miles, 2400 feet.
Pace around 15 on the flats, lots of regroups, not a hammerfest.
Water refill at the half way point
This ride is mostly flat, trending to rollers as we close in on the hill, then 1 hill, 2x.
No sweep.
For intermediate riders, or advanced beginners that want to push themselves, hard.
If you can climb ridge rd, you should be able to climb Cantelow.
Ok, here's the scoop. We'll meet in Winters at the park across Main St. from Steady Eddy's (http://steadyeddys.co.... From there, we'll ride this route, going over Cantelow hill: http://ridewithgps.co...
When we return to Winters, we'll have a bathroom break/water refills/eat a bar. Then turn around and ride that loop the other direction. If you're shot at this point, feel free to bag the rest and head home.
The descent from the top of the hill is technical. That means steep down, switchbacks, etc. You must be comfortable braking, know how and when to brake before turns, and have some bike handling skills. Riding your brakes on the way down will heat up your rims and likely result in a catastrophic blowout.
So, bring helmet, bars, spare tube, patch kit, pump, tire boot, water, etc. For those of you with aerobars, please don't use them on this ride. Leave 'em on your bike, just stay off 'em. For a multitude of reasons, they aren't safe on group rides.
We'll have lunch at Steady Eddy's post ride. Food there is excellent and worth the trip.
Rollout is 9am, so get there a bit early to be ready.
I encourage carpooling!
I have room in my truck for 1. If you can get here in the am (I'm in Rancho near Hagan Park), I'll be happy to drive. Or I can pick you up if you live nearby or are on the way.
